ETHEL DUNCAN

BELTON – Ethel Margaret Shackleford Duncan, 91, widow of James Curtis “J.C.” Duncan, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late John Richard and Mary Eva Pittman Shackleford. She was retired from Metric Shirt Company, a member of Pleasant View Wesleyan Church, and a member of the Saints Alive Choir.

Surviving are step-daughter, Debbie Duncan Whitworth (Bobby) of Anderson; sister, Lois Grant of Greenville; brother, Melvin Shackleford of Pelzer; grandchild, Jody Whitworth; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sister, Ruth Cummings, brothers, Garvin, Richard, Bobby, and J.D. Shackleford.

The family members are at their respective homes and received friends 1-2:45 pm Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Funeral services followed at 3pm Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

MARGARET GRIFFITH HUNTER

Margaret Griffith Hunter, 88, of Williamston, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Anderson Griffith Sr. and the late Mae Gaillard Griffith.

She taught in the Anderson public school system and later worked at the BASF Credit Union. She was an active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Alvin Hunter; brothers, William R. Griffith Sr. of Florence, and H. A. Griffith, Jr. of Williamston; sisters, Emmaline Griffith Porter and Grace Griffith Stegall, both of Anderson.

A service celebrating her life was held Dec. 19 at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

CHRIS LORENTZ

Clara Anna “Chris” Niemyjski Lorentz, 70, of Greenwood, widow of Gregory Anthony Lorentz, died Dec. 15, 2011 at her home.

Born in Highland Park, MI, she was a daughter of the late Stanley Frank and Clara Dobrick Niemyjski. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Surviving are two sons, Tony Lorentz of Laurens and Mark Lorentz of Williamston; daughter, Nicole Lorentz of Ninety Six; brother, Richard Niemyjski of Westland, MI; and four grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial was held Dec. 20 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood.

GARY WRIGHT

Gary Wright, 76, of Mauldin, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at his home.

Born in Laurens County, he was the son of the late Tommie and Josephine Goodman Wright.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doris M. Wright.

Surviving are daughter, Gwendolyn Wright of Mauldin; sons, Dale Wright of the home, and Randolph Downs of Greenville; two grandchildren; sister, Maggie Allen of Greenville; sister-in-law, Gloria Thurman of Pelzer, who was raised in the home.

Funeral service was held Sunday at Lowndes Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

RONALD ‘TOODLE’ COUCH, SR.

Ronald David “Toodle” Couch, Sr., 76, of Pelzer, husband of Faye Stone Couch, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late George David and Carrie Corrine Smith Couch. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and was formerly employed with Greenville Memorial Gardens and Robinson Memorial Gardens.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Ronald David Couch, Jr., Terry Michael Couch, both of Pelzer, and Jason Brian Couch, of Greenville; sisters, Frances Byers, of Greensboro, NC, Edna Queen, of Piedmont, Sue Floyd, of Greer, Jane Queen, of Simpsonville, and Faye Phillips, of Greenville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Saturday, December 17, at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith Cemetery.

LARRY WOOD

WILLIAMSTON—James Larry Wood, 63, of 2101 Anderson Highway, husband of Dianne Moore Wood, died Friday, December 16, 2011, at his home.

Born in Pelzer, SC, he was a son of the late James Harold and Mary Ballard Wood. He was a member of Palmetto High School’s class of ’67 and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He retired from Michelin where he worked in the research and technology division for thirty-four years.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his beloved pet, Heidi; his sister Elaine Elrod and her husband, Martin, of Piedmont; his nephew Ken Taylor and his wife, Donna, of Pelzer; his niece Susan Lowe and her husband, Scott, of Spartanburg; two great-nieces; one great-nephew; and one great-great-nephew.

Visitation was 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Gray Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Leon Porter officiating. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home.

CARRIE L. JONES

Mrs. Carrie Louise Henry-Jones, 83, of Greenville., died December 12, 2011 at her home. She was a member of the United House of Prayer For All People.

Surviving are her children: Carolyn E. McKinney, Rosa Still, Virginia E. Jones, all of Greenville; Gwendolyn M. Soto, US Army, Joseph C. Jones, Jr., Harold L. Jones, both of Greenville; Rev. W. Charles Jones of Piedmont, and Rev. William N. Jones of Atlantic City, NJ.

Services were held Saturday, December 17 at Antioch Baptist Church.
