Election filing books open February 24 – for Pelzer mayor

A special election for the office of mayor of the Town of Pelzer will held be Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Citizens interested in running as a candidate for mayor should file at Pelzer Town Hall, 103 Courtney Street in Pelzer. Books will open for filing at noon, February 24 and remain open during regular business hours until noon, March 5.

There is no filing fee for this office. The election is nonpartisan and no party affiliation will be placed on the ballot.

Persons desiring to vote in the election must be registered at least 30 days prior to election day. To register, one should contact the Anderson County Board of Voter Registration at (864) 260-4035.

The polling place is the Pelzer Community Building in Pelzer Park at 25 Pelzer Park Street. The polls shall open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

At 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, the poll manager(s) will begin examination of absentee ballot return envelopes. This examination will be held at Pelzer Community Building on Community Drive.

On Thursday, May 10 at 12 noon at Pelzer Town Hall, the Municipal Election Commission will hold a hearing to determine the validity of ballots if challenged.

Any run-off will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, May 22.
