A special meeting of local officials working on economic development in the Williamston, Pelzer and West Pelzer area will be held Friday, Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Anderson School District One office in Williamston. Representatives of the Department of Commerce, Anderson County and others are expected to attend.

“As we have striven for the unity of our community and our leadership since our inception, I am very excited to see this meeting come together,” said Williamston Councilman Dr. Mack Durham.

“We have been recognized by our community leadership and our County leadership as the representative economic development body for our area of Anderson County. We are also now being recognized by our Legislative Delegation and The SC Department of Commerce. Our lines of communication are clear from local to State organizations and we are ready to promote and develop our area as a leading opportunity for Industry seeking to do business in the Southeastern United States.”

Durham said several speakers are planned for the meeting.

The Palmetto Area Economic Development group has a goal of recruiting five large industries employing 500 or more employees each over the next five years.

All Municipal Mayors, Councilmen, Administrators, and Palmetto Area Economic Development Committee members are invited to attend.
