Members of The Greater Williamston Business Association (GWBA) met Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Fiesta Restaurant in Williamston.

President John Thomason (Citizens Insuarance) reported that all but three businesses that were paid members last year have paid their dues for 2012.

Thomason said the GWBA annual Easter Egg Hunt event will be held Saturday, March 31 at 9:30 a.m. in Williamston’s Mineral Spring Park. Rain date will be the following Saturday, April 7. Members of the Palmetto High JROTC unit will help with the event.

Thomason reported that he is discussing the GWBA IRS status with an accountant.

Dianne Lollis requested the GWBA consider helping with funds for the town’s July 4th Freedom Celebration. Lollis said she would like to have inflatables and possibly a train ride for the children attending the event. The group will consider the request.

Dr. Mack Durham announced that an Economic Development meeting will be held this Friday with state and local officials to “gather support for the area.” He said that site certification and work force skills are two areas of focus.

Mayor Carthel Crout informed the group of the town’s purchase of the Milliken property and explained the proposed intent to use a portion for an economic development site and another for an outdoor lab, park area with walking or biking trails.

The next meeting of the GWBA will be held March 20 at Subway in Williamston. The GWBA meets on the third Tuesday of each month at alternating locations.
