BETTY KNIGHT
Betty Jean Timms Knight, 76, of Williamston, widow of Truman Steele Knight, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Charlotte, NC, she was a daughter of the late Donnie Lee James Timms and Weston Allen Timms. She was formerly employed with Cushman Mill and a member of Beech Springs Tabernacle.
Surviving are sons, Kenny Knight of Williamston, Tony Knight of Possum Kingdom; brother, James Timms of Greenwood; three sisters, Nina Davenport of Newberry, Rita Davis of Greenwood, Bonnie Garner of Abbeville; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
The family is at 108 Gilbert Drive, Pelzer and received friends March 9 at Beech Springs Tabernacle.
Funeral services were held Friday at Beech Springs Tabernacle. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

LLOYD D. McCOMBS
Lloyd Dean McCombs, 88, of Pelzer, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at his home.
Born in West Pelzer, he was the son of the late Ben and Ethel Brock McCombs. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer.
Surviving are a sister, Marie Looper, of Pelzer.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 10 at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.

‘PAT’ KING
Thadeus “Pat” Stewart Skeen King, 86, of Pelzer, wife of Joe Charles King, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Hosanna Health and Rehab in Piedmont.
Born in Mt. Calm, Texas, she was a daughter of the late John Oscar and Effie Myrtle Fuller Stewart. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband of the home; son, Stewart Skeen of Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Sonja Skeen Edwards of Jacksonville, FL, Susan Skeen Hopkins of Greenville; sister, Barbara Bell of Cartersville, GA; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 9 in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

ARTHUR WESLEY CHILDS
WILLIAMSTON – Arthur Wesley Childs, of 30 Dove Street, died suddenly in Ocala, FL on Sunday, March 4, 2012.
Born in Red Oak City, Maryland, he was a son of the late James Lawrence and Sylvia Rhinehart Childs. He was formerly employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Garrett County, MD, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are daughter, Melinda Childs Johnson and her husband, Gerry, of Irmo; son, James Keven Childs and his wife, Shana, of Piedmont; sister, Winona Lewis of Winter Haven, FL; brothers, Forrest Childs of West Virginia, Roy Childs and his wife, Sue, of Lady Lake, FL; grandsons, John Douglas “Jake” Johnson of Irmo, Casey Dean Childs and Jesse Walker Childs, both of Piedmont; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends throughout the United States.
Memorial service will be held 1pm Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with burial following at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The family will greet family and friends one hour prior to the service.

LILLIE MAE KING
PELZER – Lillie Mae Bagwell King, 86, formerly of Pelzer, widow of Charles Hugh “Red” King, died Friday, March 9, 2012, at 102 Ozzie Lane, Fountain Inn, SC.
A daughter of the late Harmon Reid and Rena Bell Davis Bagwell, she was a member of Washington Baptist Church. She was formerly employed by American Spinning.
She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.
Visitation was Sunday 6-8 pm at the mortuary. Services were Monday 2:00 pm at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of Lynn Freeman, 104 Alverson Road, Pelzer.

EDITH BROWN
Edith Spearman Brown, 95, of Piedmont, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at her home.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Isadore and Dora Jones Spearman.
She retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, N. Keith Brown of Simpsonville and Stan Brown of Piedmont; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Monday at Shiloh United Methodist Church.

JOYCE H. THOMPSON
Joyce Harris Thompson, 73, of Piedmont, wife of Max D. Thompson, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at her home.
Born in Rutherford County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Lillian Henderson Harris.
She was partners with her husband as owners and operators of Custom Built Homes and was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Greenville.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Kathy Thompson of Rutherfordton, NC and Tracy Behan of Cumming, GA; brothers, Sidney Harris of Fountain Inn and Carson Harris of California; sisters, Peggy Kuykendall of Columbus, NC, Reida Sudduth of Reidville, Carole Walker of Rutherfordon, NC and Debbie Moore of Ellenboro, NC; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road.
Entombment followed in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

ALICE JENELLE MARCHBANKS ELLISON
MAULDIN – Alice Jenelle Marchbanks Ellison, 92, widow of Rev. Broadus M. Ellison of 303 Miller Rd. died Monday, March 12, 2012 at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of the late Rev. C.V. Marchbanks, Sr. and Ethel M. Wilbanks Marchbanks. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Surviving are: sons, Ronnie Ellison and wife Lynn of Williamston; Tim Ellison and wife Marthan of Mason, OH; daughter, Ann Bain and husband Art of Williamston; brother, Claude Marchbanks, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Clemson; sisters, Ella Mae Greene and husband Lloyd of Mauldin, Margaret Garren of Greenville; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Service will be conducted 2pm Thursday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Groover, Rev. Bill Ellison, Tim Ellison and Dr. Ron Culbertson officiating. Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home.
Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.
The family will be at their respective homes.

M. L. KELLY, JR.
BROUSSARD, LA – March 5, 1928 – March 4, 2012. M.L. Kelly, Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 4.
He was the first child born to the late M.L. Kelly, Sr. and Gertrude Darnall Kelly.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 60 years, Betty O’Neil Kelly, Dec. 20, 2011; Sister, Cynthia Kelly Thompson, Dec. 28, 2011; and brother, E. Glenn Kelly, August 8, 2000.
He is survived by two daughters, Vickie Thompson (Larry) of Broussard, LA and Debbie Nicholas (Oscar) of Anna Coco, LA; two sons, Frankie Kelly (Paula) of Broussard, LA and Dwayne Kelly of GA; 14 wonderful grandchildren; and many great-grands.
Also surviving are six sisters, Margie K. Lathem of Easley, MaryAnn K. Bartodej, Emily K. Butterfield, Elizabeth K. Rogers, Linda K. Raven and Lynne K. Ashley, all of Williamston.
Military services were held Thursday, March 8, 2012 in Lafayette, LA.

ALMOND CAMPBELL
Almond Julia Carroll Campbell, wife of Dick Campbell of Pelzer, died at her home on March 12, 2012.
Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of Guy and Pearl Carroll. She was a bookkeeper at the First National Bank in Atlanta.
She is survived by her husband, Dick; children, Jean Burroughs; Charles Campbell; brother, and Clarence Willie Carroll.
Visitation will be Friday, March 16th from 1:30-2:45pm at Sandy Springs Baptist Church.
Funeral services will follow at 3pm at the church. Entombment will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of your choice.

LORRAINE GARRETT
WEST PELZER – Lorraine Owens Garrett, 88, formerly of West Pelzer, widow of Perry Bishop Garrett, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, in El Campo, TX.
Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late D. C. and Lila Owens. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Williamston and a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are son-in-law, Ronnie Davenport, of El Campo, TX; grandchildren, Amanda B. Davenport, of El Campo, TX, and Wesley Brett Davenport (Nicole), of Houston, TX; and great-grandchild, Taylor Blair Davenport.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Bobbie Garrett Davenport; and son, Donald Garrett.
Visitation was held 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

DOROTHY ‘DOTTIE’ ASHLEY SMITH
Dorothy (Dottie) Ashley Smith, 85, of Siler City, NC, died at her home on Sunday, March 11, 2012. She was the widow of Rev. C. R. Smith, Jr.
Born in Williamston, she was the daughter of Samiel Joshua and Linnie Martin Ashley.
She retired from teaching and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Siler City.
She is survived by her son, Randy Smith of West Palm Beach, FL; two grandsons; and one sister, Miriam Lark of Anderson.
The funeral service was Wednesday, March 14 at First Baptist Church, 314 North Second Avenue, Siler City. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.

WILLIAM NORRIS
William S. Norris, 93, of Liberty, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Anderson County, a son of the late William Scarborough and Rebecca Gillespie Norris, he retired from Mohawk Mills and was a member of Bishop Branch Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the US Navy.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Brown Norris of the home; a son, Don Norris of Liberty; three daughters, Jane Lesley of Greer, Shirley Gwinn of Greenville and Frances Chapman of Williamston; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Alene Perry Norris.
Private graveside services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
