Gary named Anderson School District 3 Superintendent

Anderson School District 3 has named Palmetto High Principal Mason Gary as their next superintendent.

Gary was selected to fill the position after a month long process by the Iva-based district to find a replacement for superintendent Gail Southard, who recently announced she is resigning the position she has held since 2009.

Gary will begin his term as District 3 superintendent with the 2012-13 school year.

He has been involved in education for 23 years serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal at Palmetto Middle School and currently as principal at Palmetto High for 13 years.

District 3 covers more than 167.1 square miles with a population of more than 16,000 in the southwestern part of the county. The district includes the towns of Starr and Iva and serves more than 2,500 studentsĀ at five schools.
ItĀ is the smallest school district in Anderson County in student population and operated budget of more than $16 million budget for the current school year.
