William “Curly” Leach, who recently announced that he planned to run for the office of mayor in Williamston announced this week that he is dropping out of the race. In an emailed statement to The Journal, Leach said, “The last couple of months have been a whirlwind of excitement and change, some good and some sad.”

“I’m writing this to inform you that while I don’t wish to do so, I have to because my priorities have changed due to my Family changing in number. With God first and foremost in our lives, family second and my work taking a different change as well, I don’t have the much needed time that the Great people and this Great Town need in running for Mayor.”

“I regretfully have to drop from the race per reasons already discussed. While I was running it was a Great Honor and with Great Respect to meet those that I did and would like to take this time to thank them and those who supported my running…I only hope that I didn’t let any of them down and I also would hope that they understand why I’m dropping from the race. I will continue to work and strive to help and be a thriving part of this Great community.”

Leach also stated his support for another candidate that recently announce for the office.

““Good Luck” to Mr. Durham, for which I will fully put my support behind…Go get’em Mack,” he said.
