NORA ‘PEGGY’ MAGDELENE BROOKS
BELTON – Nora “Peggy” “MeMa” Magdelene Walls Brooks, 80, of 166 Holly Springs Road, wife of Silas Brooks, Jr., died Thursday, July 18, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Rennie Esco and Dora Mae Cheek Walls. She retired from Milliken and Company, Cushman Plant.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Mae Carol Phelps (Randy), of Pickens; brothers, DeWitt Walls and Rennie “Bud” Walls, Jr., both of Anderson; sisters, Jean Webb, of Belton, Sue Walls, Claudia Stephens and Ella Gentry, all of Anderson; grandchildren, Bryson (Ashley) Phelps and Dustin Phelps; and great-grandchildren, Rylee and Lucas Phelps.
She was predeceased by two brothers, J. C. and Doyle Walls; and sisters, Nellie Draughn, Helene Burdett and Willeen Bridges.
Visitation was 12-1:45 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with funeral services following at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Family members are at their respective homes.

MARIE LOOPER
Julia Marie McCombs Looper, 90, of Pelzer, widow of Paul Edward Looper, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at her home.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Benjamin and Ethel Brock McCombs. She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Brenda L. Lee of Greenville, Julia L. Mahoney of Richmond, VA, and Teresa Carrano of Gainesville, GA; sons, Gary Looper of Piedmont, and Micah Looper of Pendleton; ten grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

BILL GILLESPIE
William Wertz Gillespie, Jr. “Bill”, of Piedmont, 78, died July 14, 2012.
Husband of Mildred King Gillespie, he was born in Piedmont, April 5, 1934. He was the son of the late William Wertz Gillespie Sr. and Virginia Garrison Gillespie. He was a US Air Force Veteran.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Victoria Gillespie Stewart and husband Garry Stewart of Ware Place, Lisa Gillespie Revis and husband Tim of Easley; six grandchildren, Nathan, Jonathan, and Jacob Stewart, Genna, Adam and Marius Revis; and sister, Debbie Moore of Piedmont.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Gillespie and Curtis ‘Butch’ Gillespie; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held July 17, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Gardens Chapel.

STEVE BURT CANTRELL
Steve Burt Cantrell, 59, died July 18, 2012.
He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church and retired as an auto technician.
Surviving are his wife, Dale Gooch Cantrell; brother, Chuck Cantrell of Piedmont; two sisters, Joan Powell Cromer of Easley and Karen C. Hoben of Lancaster.
He was predeceased by his parents, James Eugene and Essie Mae Cantrell.
A Celebration of Life was held July 21 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Easley.

JOE NATHAN BLACK
Joe Nathan Black, Jr., 87, of Pelzer, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Diamond Health and Rehab Center, Simpsonville.
Funeral service was held Saturday at the Reedy Fork Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military rites.

REV. THOMAS CLYDE CHILDS
Rev. Thomas Clyde “T.C.” Childs, 85, of Seneca, husband of Mary Esther Cook Childs, died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at his home.
Born in Cateechee, he was the son of the late Thomas Wesley and Isabel Reese Childs. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the Mountain View Wesleyan Church in Salem after pastoring 13 churches in the South Carolina Wesleyan District.
He is survived by son, Dennis Childs of Irmo; daughter, Joan Childs Wallace of Sun City Center, FL; stepson, Scott Cook of Piedmont; stepdaughter, Joan Cook Loftin of Easley; brothers, Jack Childs of Broadway, NC and Wayne Childs of Brownwood, TX; sister, Annie Ruth Smith of Spartanburg; ten grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Beatrice Bowen Childs.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 25 in the Davenport Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Clemson Memory Gardens in Central.

AMY BEAUCHAMP FOBEAR
Amy Beauchamp Fobear, 32, wife of Jeffrey A. Fobear and mother of Stephen James “Jace” Fobear died July 15, 2012 at MD Anderson in Houston, TX.
She was born in Dover, DE to Jim and Debbie Beauchamp.
She was a fifth grade teacher at LaFrance Elementary School. She was a member of NewSpring Church.
In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by her parents of Piedmont; and grandparents of Maryland.
A casual open house celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 26 in LaFrance Elementary School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

ANNE S. MORRIS
Anne Scott Morris, 83, of Anderson, widow of Robert William Morris, died Saturday, July 21, 2012.
Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Robert Ansel and Mamie McGill Scott. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Robert W. Morris Jr. of Anderson; a daughter, Kathy M. Kaminska of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, Anderson. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

DORIS ‘DOT’ CHILDERS
WILLIAMSTON – Doris “Dot” Trula Brady Childers, 84, widow of Dennis Murray Childers, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late Charles Gaddus Brady, Sr. and Rallen Leslie Brady. She was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Sandra Lynn Harper and son-in-law, James A. Harper, and Cynthia C. Lewis, both of Williamston; sisters, Peggy Brady Mason of Hendersonville, NC, Elaine Brady Shirley of Williamston; grandchildren, Michelle Harper Austin, Melissa Harper Fagan, Rusty Lewis, Nikki Lewis Funk; nine great grandchildren.
Visitation was held 10-11am Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
Funeral services followed at 11:30 am in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Chris Huff officiating.
The family will be at the home of Sandra Harper, 2006 Beaverdam Court, Williamston.

EDITH CLARDY
PIEDMONT – Edith Marcelle Clardy, 94, formerly of Piedmont, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at Majesty Health and Rehab of Easley where she had been a resident for the last six and a half years.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Aldine Butler and Eula Ellison Clardy. She was retired from the Kendall Company and a member of White Plains Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Wanda C. Lollis of Piedmont; grandson, James (Jed) Lollis of Atlanta, GA; sister, Bertha C. Sanders of Anderson; brother and his wife, Homer and Jessie Clardy of Pelzer; two sister-in-law, Pauline Clardy of Pelzer and Annie Clardy of Anderson.
She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Eddie M. Lollis, three brothers, Furman, Broadus, and Leon Clardy; four sisters, Pearl Smith, Ethel Dickerson, Lola Mae Smith, and Hazel Elrod.
Visitation will be from 2-3 pm Thursday, July 26, 2012 at White Plains Baptist Church.
Funeral services will follow at 3pm at the church with burial in the church cemetery.

FAYE S. McCULLOUGH
Faye Loraine Smith McCullough, 86, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at NHC of Mauldin.
Born in Iva, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Pickens Smith and the late Sadie Ruth Loftis Smith.
She retired from Wamsutta Mills and was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Milton Dwayne McLeskey of Augusta, GA, Edward Lamar McCullough of Anderson, Fredda Alewine of Anderson, Judy Betterley of Piedmont, and Debbie Cates of Simpsonville; sister, Juanita Burton of Iva; ten grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.

KATHLEEN TOLLISON
Kathleen Chapman Tollison, 85, formerly of Liberty, died Tuesday at Autumn Care in Saluda, NC.
Born in Pickens, she was the widow of the late Alton John Tollison and daughter of the late William S. Chapman and Lois Chapman Durham.
She was retired from Sangamo Electric and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Elaine Moore of Piedmont; two sisters, Ruby Bagwell of Liberty and Eloise Durham of Saluda, NC; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will beheld Friday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

ROSA LEE BRYANT
Rosa Lee Stegall Bryant, 81, of Easley, wife of the late John C. Bryant, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late William M. and Laura Henrietta McNeely Stegall. She retired from Stone Manufacturing Company and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Tom Stegall of Pelzer; three sisters, Ann Armstrong and Doris Holliday, both of Easley and Marion Johnson of Mauldin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

GARY YOUNG
Gary Marshall Young, 70, of Pelzer, husband of Jeanne Bennett Young, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late C.L. and Grace Branyon Young.  He was a retired state and federal meat inspector.
Surviving are his wife of the home; son, Tony Randall Young of Williamston, daughter, Sherri Dalton of Williamston; step-son, Brian Wooten of Easley; step-daughter, Jennifer Wilson of Cornelia, GA; brothers, Don Young of Belton and Terry Young of Anderson; sister, Judy Smith of Belton; seven grandsons; one granddaughter.
Visitation will be 6-8:30 pm Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
Funeral services will be held 11am Friday, July 27, 2012 in the funeral home chapel.
The family is at the home of his mother-in-law, Frances Bennett, 1507 S. Piedmont Hwy., Piedmont.

ELOISE GAULT
Lois Eloise Posey Gault, 74, of Pelzer, wife of Fred Ralph Gault, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at Hospice of the Upstate.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Ethel Posey.  She retired from Alice Manufacturing and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Piedmont.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Roy Dale Hughes of Columbia; sisters, Mildred Green and Carolyn Stancil, both of Pickens, and Ressie Black of Seneca; and brothers, Clyde Posey of Pendleton, and William Posey of Easley.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 19 from 2-3 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church.  Funeral services will follow at the church at 3 p.m. Thursday.  Burial will be at the church cemetery.

RUTH JOHNSON
PIEDMONT – Ruth Lawson Johnson, 87, of 173 Oak Hill Drive, widow of Charles Lloyd Johnson, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at her home.
Born in Rogersville, TN, she was a daughter of the late Milam Davis and Cecil Klepper Lawson.  She retired from Swirl Manufacturing and was a lifelong member of New Salem Baptist Church in Rogersville, TN.
Surviving are daughters, Karen J. Frazier, of Piedmont, and Sherry J. Jordan (Randy), of Pelzer; son, Larry Charles Johnson (Jody), of Belton; brothers, Pleas Lawson, Frank Lawson and Reid Lawson, all of Rogersville, TN; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Volina Horne, Alvina Lawson and Bonnie Alvis; and a son-in-law, Larry Frazier.
Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with funeral services following at 3 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.  Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
