MARVIN COOLEY

Marvin Cooley, Sr., 89, of Belton, widower of Glendell Latham Cooley, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Hosanna Health and Rehab of Piedmont.

Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Sanford A. and Ada Copeland Cooley.  A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired from Riegel Textiles and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughter, Marveen Hall of Belton; and son, Marvin Cooley, Jr. of Lincolnton, GA.

Funeral services were August 10 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.

JAMES DAVID McCLAIN

James David McClain, 47, of Williamston, died August 6, 2012.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of James William McClain and Evelyn Darline Frankum Hunter, and was the spouse of Blanche McClain.

In addition to his parents and spouse, he is survived by daughters, Melissa Thompson, Jessica McClain, Jean Hall and Melanie Washburn; brothers, Pete McClain and Mark McClain; sister, Tabitha McClain; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 11 in the Funeral Home Chapel of Woodlawn-Sosebee. Burial followed in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

CLYDE RAYMOND THRIFT, JR.

Clyde Raymond Thrift, Jr., of Piedmont, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Mc Call Hospice House.

Born in Huntsville, AL, he was the son of the late Clyde Raymond Thrift, Sr. and Alma Thrift and was the widower of Hazel Leopard Thrift. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Conestee. He was retired from Woodside Mill and was a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran of World War II.

Surviving are four daughters, Kathy Thackston of Simpsonville, Janice Cuffel of Piedmont, Teresa Steading of Auburn, GA and Gladys Schmidt of Hitchcock, SD; six sons, Bill Hamby of Fountain Inn, Robert Thrift of Greenville, Mark Thrift of Simpsonville, Rev. LeRoy Thrift of Piedmont, Floyd Thrift of Greenville and Clyde Thrift III of Doland, SD; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 11 at First Baptist Church, Conestee. Interment followed in Rosemont Cemetery in Union.

JUSTIN ABERCROMBIE

Justin Abercrombie, 19, of Pelzer, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Michael Abercrombie and Angie Knight.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Justiah Abercrombie; sister, Adrienne Abercrombie; grandmother, Vickie Gresham; and stepmother, Angela Abercrombie.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 10 at Cannon Funeral Home Chapel in Fountain Inn. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

ROBERT CAMPBELL

Robert Douglas Campbell, 61, of Piedmont, husband of Terry Campbell, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in York County, he was a son of the late Preston Melvin and Ruby Evatt Campbell. He was the President and owner of Campbell Crane Rental, Inc. and a member of Fort Mill First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his son Todd Campbell of Williamston; brother, Frankie Campbell of Fort Mill; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm. Thursday at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial will follow at Robinson Memorial Gardens.

BOBBY THOMASON

Bobby Eugene Thomason, 79, of Piedmont, husband of Vonnie Pack Thomason, died Friday, August 10, 2012 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late John Fulton and Lillie Sloan Thomason.  He was retired from Overnite Transportation and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  He was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

Surviving are his wife of the home, sons, Michael Thomason of Kemp, TX, Joe Thomason  of Powdersville; sister, Carolyn Taylor of Mauldin; brother, James Thomason of Anderson; four grandchildren;  and two step-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held August 12 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

IDA CULBERTSON

Ida Mae Gentry Culbertson, 88, formerly of Pelzer, widow of Raymond E. Culbertson and John Henry Culbertson, died Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Dayspring Health and Rehab of Simpsonville.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse F. and Mary Ellen Garrett Gentry.  She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

Surviving are daughters, Grace Dixon of Anderson, Gail Allison of Pelzer, and Tommie Davis of Williamston; son, Glenn Culbertson of Belton; stepsons, John Culbertson of Belton, and Danny Culbertson of Iva; brother, Willman Gentry of Pelzer; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 13 at the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at the Guthrie Grove Church of God of Abrahamic Faith Cemetery.

CHARLES CABRA

WILLIAMSTON – Charles Lynn Cabra, 84, husband of Marie Schell Cabra, of 10 Springdale Drive, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Hornbeck, LA, he was a son of the late Claude Henry and Mary Curtis Cabra.  He was a former employee of Fluor Daniel and the founder of Construction Ministries, Inc.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Lynne Cabra Whitten, of Williamston; son and daughter-in-law, Mark R. and Sherry S. Cabra, of Seneca; brother, Claude Henry Cabra, Jr., of Huntsville, AL; sister, Vivien Shipley, of Longview, TX; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012, at Set Free Christian Fellowship.  Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Robinson Memorial Gardens.

BETTY JENKINS

Betty Duncan Jenkins, 79, of Williamston, widow of Scott Jenkins, died Friday, August 10, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse L. and Annie Bell Williams Duncan.  She was a Baptist.

Surviving are daughter Kristen Green of Kershaw; sister, Mary Ann Bunton of Williamston; brothers, Danny Duncan of Statesboro, GA, Jerry Duncan of VA.

Graveside services were held August 11 in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

LILLIE OWEN

Lillie Mae Ammons Owen, 83, died Saturday, August 11, 2012, at her home in Honea Path. 

She was the last living child of the late Tom and Retter Ammons from Cullowhee Mountain, NC, and the wife of the late Sgt. Ray W. Owen from Wolf Mountain, NC.  She was a homemaker and a member of Daventon Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda Owen Vinson, and one son, Michael Ray Owen, both of Honea Path; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, August 13 at the Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

COLLINS BLACK

HONEA PATH – Collins Bradshaw Black, infant daughter of Joshua Paul and Amy Stover Black of 150 Black Farm Rd., passed away Friday, August 10, 2012 at her home.

Her parents are affiliated with Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are sister, Alex Crowe, brothers, Avery and Riggs Black, all of the home; grandparents Kenny and Cindy Black of Honea Path, grandmother, Kay Huff Stover of Piedmont and the late Bobby Stover; great-grandparents, Guy and Marcelle Black of Honea Path, great-grandmother, Barbara Huff of Belton, great-grandparents, Von and Cope Gambrell of Piedmont.

 Visitation was held Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 2-4 pm in the old sanctuary of Washington Baptist Church.

Funeral services followed at 4pm in the Family Life Center of Washington Baptist Church with Revs. Stan Candler and Greg Black officiating.  Burial followed in Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Honea Path.

DR. JAMES NORRIS

WILLIAMSTON – The Rev. Dr. James A. Norris, 80, husband of Peggy Campbell Norris, of 103 River Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at his home.

Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late James Leroy and Mattie Boyce Norris.  He served in the National Guard reserves, retired from the U. S. Postal Service, where he was a supervisor, and was the retired minister of Trinity Baptist Church in Williamston where he pastored for 43 years. Dr. Norris was a graduate of Williamston High School and attended the University of South Carolina, Furman University, and earned his degree in Greek and Hebrew from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He later earned a Doctorate of Divinity from Tabernacle Bible College in Greenville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Lynn (Rick) Kidder, of Williamston, and Jan (Kenny) Cartee, of Pelzer; son, Andy Norris, of the home; and grandson, Vince Cartee, of Pelzer.

He was predeceased by his stepmother, Lulu Welborn Trotter Norris; sister, Margaret Hawkins; and brothers, Jack, Julian and Reginald Norris.

Visitation was 12-2 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2012, at Trinity Baptist Church.  Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Alton Midgett, the Rev. Robbie Robertson, and the Rev. Dr. Jack Manley officiating.  Entombment was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

FRANK HAMMOND

John Frank Hammond, 87, husband of the late Bobbie Sue Reid Hammond, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Cevera W. and Nora Robinson Hammond. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglas. He was a member of Young Memorial A.R.P. Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Rebekah Hammond of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Steve Hammond of Denver, NC and Alan R. Hammond of Williamston; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel.

BERNICE PUGH

Bernice Pugh, 79, died Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Diamond Health & Rehab. Born in Belton, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Inino Sullivan Cooley.

Surviving are a son, John Pugh of Woodbridge, NJ; sister, Dorothy Scott of Greenville; brothers, Erskine Cooley of Piedmont, James W. Cooley of Mauldin, and Grady Cooley of Mauldin; ; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday at New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

JASON CRANE

Jason Lewis Crane, 41, died Friday, August 10, 2012.

He was the husband of Amy Evatt Crane.

Surviving in addition to his wife are, one stepchild, Trystan Evatt Loftis; mother and step-father, Donna Cothran and Michael J. Merkerson of West Pelzer; father and stepmother, Paul and Carol Crane of Pelzer; sister, Paula Pitts of Pelzer; two brothers, Tony Crane of Seneca and David Crane of Anderson; stepsister, Toni Osteen of Greenville; and grandmother, Inez Crane of West Pelzer.

A memorial service was held  August 13 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 315 Hamlin Road, Easley.
