County seeing some economic activity

By Stan Welch – In a remarkably weak economy, Anderson County has suffered less than many areas. More than a thousand jobs have been created, along with nearly $2 billion in capital investment. That level of economic activity is always felt far beyond the scope of the actual projects; and a review of the latest public works report, issued weekly by the county, shows that activity is beginning to pick up in the District Six and District Seven areas.

DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS: Staff issued 56 new septic tank permits for Hemlock Subdivision located off of Mountain View Road. The builder will begin construction immediately for 56 new residential homes.

LAND USE PERMITS: Walker Veterinary Hospital and Clinic located on Highway 81, Anderson, McDonald’s Addition located on Highway 153 Powdersville, Premier Woman’s Care addition, located at 209 Three Bridges Road

SITE PLAN REVIEW: East Coast Granite & Tile located at 3000 Highway 153 Powdersville

SUBDIVISIONS APPROVED: Spring Hill Farm Phase 5 located off of Cely Lane, will consist of 10 new residential lots for construction.

Working with property owner on a zoning violation at 114 Bear Brook Trail Williamston with the assistance of the Building Codes Manager.

Working with developer on a new Papa John’s Pizza located on Beaverdam Road in the Old Dixie Building in Williamston.

Attended meeting with R&B Engineer and SCDOT officials regarding the development of the New Dollar General Retail Store on Highway 153 near Hood Road.

Planning & Community Development

Posted an ad in the Independent Mail for the two public hearings to be held before the Planning Commission on September 11th – rezoning request of Crestview and Hwy 81 N and the Denver-Sandy Springs Zoning Referendum/Proposed Zoning Map

Completed rezoning application packet and placed signs/took pictures of site. Also notified property owners, by postcard, surrounding the Crestview rezoning request of the upcoming public hearing before the Planning Commission. Site is located on Crestview Road near intersection of Highway 81. Applicant is requesting zoning designation change from R-12 (Residential) to C-1R (Rural Commercial) for a landscape business.

Roads & Bridges

Road crews set the 7’x7’ concrete box culvert on Joe Black Road (C-01-0174), poured the concrete footings on both ends and started back filling.

Storm drainage installation by developer has begun at Sterling Meadows subdivision.

Five roads in Piedmont affected by the Metro-Connect sewer project passed compaction testing and are ready for strip patching by the contractor.
