The Anderson County Transportation Committee awarded the Town of Williamston $64,391.22, the amount needed in matching funds for a state DOT grant in the amount of $322,000.

The funds will finance the second phase of the Town’s Streetscape project, extending the existing sidewalk and landscaping project southward from McDonald’s across the bridge to Gossett Street.

Mayor Crout thanked the committee for their decision, saying, “This will let us continue our efforts to spruce up our town. The SCDOT will finish up the preliminary drawings we had done, and then they will let the contracts. We hope to have a ribbon cutting on the new phase before November 6.”

The Town has also recently received a Community Block Development Grant (CDBG)in the amount of approximately $550,000 to fund a sewer project along Academy Street.
