FAYE BELL
WILLIAMSTON – Faye Audrey Porter Bell, 90, of Williamston, widow of James Norwood Bell, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Majesty Health and Rehab of Easley.
She was born on November 30, 1922 in Pickens County to the late Davis Barton “Bub” and Rosa Anna Duncan Porter. She lived most of her life on Main Street in Williamston. A lifelong homemaker, she was a dedicated, loving mother and grandmother. Her family, cooking, and gardening were her passions in life. Everyone looked forward to the beautiful flowers covering her front porch through the years. She ran an in-home daycare for approximately 25 years keeping numerous children who still affectionately refer to her as Belle.
She is survived by three sons, Johnny N. (Linda) Bell, of Williamston, Harold L. (Cindy) Bell, of Simpsonville, and James R. (Wendy) Bell, of Williamston; daughter, Sandra Faye (Michael) Barrett, of Williamston; brother, Olan Porter, of Columbia; nine grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she predeceased by an infant daughter, Rose Ann Bell; an infant great-grandson, Todd Henderson; three brothers, Wayne Porter, Andrew Porter, and Leon Porter; and two sisters, Betty Watson and Hazel Merritt.
Visitation was held 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with funeral services following at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery in Pelzer.

ALTON CHILDRESS
PIEDMONT – Alton Duiane Childress, 61, of 17 Prospect St., husband of Sarah Jo Barbre Childress, died December 22, 2012.
Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late James Benjamin and Margaret Tecola Clark Childress. He was employed with Ryder Truck Leasing in Anderson and attended Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle.
Surviving are his wife of the home; sons, Jason Childress of Pelzer, Jeremy Childress of the home; daughter, Melanie Childress of Fair Play; sisters, Carolyn Bell of Piedmont, Susan Payne of Pelzer; brothers, Arnold Childress and James Childress, both of Piedmont; five grandchildren, Mitchell Hooper, Brooke and Clark Childress, Landon and Levi Childress.
He was predeceased by a brother, Grover Childress.
Visitation was held from 12:30-2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
Funeral services followed at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles Bell officiating.

WYATT AIKEN
WILLIAMSTON – Wyatt Aiken, 84, husband of Louise Fisher Aiken, died Monday, December 24, 2012, at his home.
Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Will and Mary Lou Simpson Aiken. A U. S. Navy veteran, he retired from the House of Fabrics in Mauldin and was a member of Williamston Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Linda Gibson (Tommy), of W. Union, Joan Thompson, of Raeford, NC, and Lori Phillips (“Gar”), of Williamston; sister, Francis James, of Easley; brother, Willie Aiken, of Williamston; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special friends, Em Smith and her family; and special companions, Molly, Shorty and Max.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Edward Walter Coker, Sr., 69, of Piedmont, widower of Linda Rainey Coker, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his home.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late William Ernest and Mary Ann Davis Coker. He was the owner of A.D. Expeditors, Inc. and a Baptist.
Surviving are daughters, Angie Jeanes and Tammy Johnson, both of Belton; sons, Edward W. “Eddie” Coker, Jr. and William E. “Billy” Coker, II, both of Greer; brother, Bennie Coker of Stockbridge, GA; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held December 28 in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
THOMAS ‘RED’ EVANS
Thomas Waymond ‘Red’ Evans, 83, formerly of Piedmont, husband of the late Betty Love Ridgeway Evans, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at R.M. Campbell Veterans Center.
Born in Madison, GA, son of the late Dupree and Alice Garrett Evans, he was owner of Evans Foreign Car Salvage and member of Welcome Baptist Church.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are two daughters, Tutti Hall of Easley, and Jenny Evans of Powdersville; brother, O’Neal Evans of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cryptside services were held Sunday, December 23 in the mausoleum of Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Marti Collins Stevens, 62, of Piedmont, died Saturday, December 21, 2012.
Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late John and Virginia Collins.
She worked in journalism and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; children, Ben, Amy and Brian; one granddaughter; and two sisters, Caro and Libby.

Margie Cardelia Lay Phillips, 88, widow of Jessie James Phillips, of Honea Path, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at her home.
Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Viola Crane Lay. She was a member of Columbia Baptist Church and retired from Riegel Textile Corp.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph Phillips and Ronnie Phillips, both of Honea Path; four daughters, Charlotte Robinson of Belton, Nancy Stone of Winnsboro, Patricia Dyal of Newberry, and Rita Hester of Pelzer; three brothers, Verner Lay of Walhalla, and Rufus and Mason Lay, both of Seneca; five sisters, Beatrice Kelly of Walhalla, Dorothy Poore of Salem, Ruth Rollins of Easley, and Sara White and Marian Pearson, both of Seneca; and 14 grandchildren.

Marjorie Raines Paulos, 90, wife of the late Billy L. Paulos, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at National Health Care, Mauldin.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Clyde Steven Raines, Sr. and the late Mary Lee Heeney Raines, she was a homemaker and a member of Dacusville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Toni P. Morgan of Powdersville and Terri P. Zagars of Monument, CO; six sisters, Elizabeth Law of Troy, AL, Nancy Sanders of Greenville, Clara Leslie of Dacusville, Barbara Addington of Lexington, Pat Rainey of Piedmont and Sharon Hensley of Greenville; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 29 at Dacusville United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

William Douglas Owen, Sr., 76, of Greenville, died Friday, December 21, 2012.
He was a son of the late James Palmer and Mary Lee Wickliffe Owen.
Surviving are two sons, William Douglas Owen, Jr. of Greer and James Fred Johnson of Powdersville; four sisters; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

JAMES ‘LEON’ MADDEN
James “Leon” Madden, 78, husband of Betty Knight Madden of Belton died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late James Roy and Eulala Carnes Madden. He was a proud Marine, retired from Milliken Cushman Plant and was an avid horse trainer, bird hunter and motorcyclist. He was also a Deacon at Dorchester Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are: son, James Bailey Madden and wife Vivian of the home; daughter, Denese (David Wurm) Madden from Ohio; grandchildren, Ashley N. Smith and Bradley Madden; step grandchildren, Jason and Stephen Dockery; great grandchildren, Austin K. and Dylan B. Smith and Haley Dockery; brother, Jimmy Madden and wife Sandra.
Services were conducted 2:00pm Wednesday at Dorchester Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Allen officiating. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family received friends prior to the service from 12:00pm until 1:45pm at Dorchester Baptist Church.
The family is at the residence.

WILLIAMSTON—Thomas Earl Browning, 85, of 102 Lander Street, husband of Sarah Katherine Erwin Browning, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at his residence.
Born in Pelzer, SC, he was a son of the late James Calvin and Lizzie Thomas Browning. He retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member at Williamston Church of God.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by sons Erwin and wife Martha Browning, Mike and wife Angela Browning, all of Williamston, and Tim Browning of Belton; sisters Catherine Traynham of Kansas, Doris Simmons of Greenwood, and Elizabeth Moon of Simpsonville; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held 1:00-1:45 Monday at Gray Mortuary. Services followed at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

PIEDMONT– Dorothy Mae Jones Burgess, 80, of 832 S. Piedmont Highway, died Friday, December 28, 2012.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Marie Lamb Jones. She was twice married, first to the late Andrew W. Burgess and second to the late Joe Clyde Burgess. She was a member of Piedmont Church of God for thirty-two years.
Surviving are sons Andrew “Andy” Burgess of Greenville, Jerry Burgess and his wife Rhonda of Piedmont, Larry Burgess of Piedmont, and Sammy Burgess of Greenville; daughters Alice Burgess of Piedmont, Kathy McCarter of Williamston, Joann Carter and her husband Leon of Greenville County, and Norma Jean Simmons of Greenville County; one brother; one sister, twenty-seven grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four children James, Donald Ray, and Lawrence Burgess and Christine Southerland.
Visitation was 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at Gray Mortuary. Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Monday at Piedmont Church of God, burial followed at the Six and Twenty Baptist Church Cemetery.

James Franklin “Frank” Hinson, 83, of Greenville, widower of Ella Julia ‘Judy’ Deese Hinson, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the home of his daughter.
Born in Concord, NC, he was a son of the late Samuel Archie and Roma Kathleen Shoe Hinson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a contract carpet installer with Belk-Simpson and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two children, James Gregory ‘Greg’ Hinson of Simpsonville and Kathy Barton of Pelzer; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mattie Mae Owens Stanton, 83, of Pelzer, wife of William H. “Bill” Stanton, died Monday, December 31, 2012.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Lizzie Mae Martin Owens.
She was retired from National Fiber and a charter member of Eastview Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of the home; daughters, Becky Elrod of Piedmont, Debbie Stanton and Tony Trotter of Pelzer; brother, James Owens of Williamston; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Daltha Mae ‘Dalth’ Chick, 83, of Williamston, died Thursday, at the Baptist Easley Hospital.
She was born in Anderson County. Surviving are one son, Gerald Chick; two sisters, Ruby Williams and Georgia Smith; and two brothers, Bobby James Smith and Johnny Smith.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Holloway’s Funeral Home of Belton. Burial followed at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church.
IDA MCCONNELL
Ida McConnell, 49, died on December 24, 2012 in Easley.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 4 p.m. at the Cremation Society of South Carolina.
She was born in Warren, PA to George and Gertrude Moore.
She is survived by her husband, Larry McConnell of Greenville; brothers, John Miller of Dacusville and Melvin Miller of Liberty; sisters, Sabra Miller of Easley and Veronica Smith of Edinboro, PA; sons, Eddie Coleman of Greer and Tupper Coleman of Piedmont; daughter, Barbara Mann of Easley; stepsons, Cody McConnell of Easley and Tyler McConnell fo Jacksonville, NC; and ten grandchildren.
The family will be at the home of her sister, 142 Crestwood Court, Easley, SC 29640 after the service.
