Several old buildings on Mill St. which once housed thriving businesses but have been empty for years, were torn down last week. The property was purchased by First Baptist Church last year and is being cleaned up. There are no immediate plans for the property, a church spokesperson said.

rexDSC_2513Another Williamston landmark is now just a memory. The building that housed Deluxe Cleaners, a mainstay business on Mill Street for over 70 years was torn down last week. Woody Hill and Bud Snipes purchased the cleaners from Earl Hand back in the early 50’s. Not only did the cleaners offer the normal service of cleaning, but they also offered pickup and delivery routes for Pelzer, West Pelzer, Piedmont and Belton. It was also a source of employment for many people over the years. Curt Walker purchased the business in 1990 and kept the Deluxe Cleaners’ name and quality of service until he passed away in 2006.
