To discuss local issues

The Town of Williamston is planning several council work session to allow council members the opportunity to discuss town issues in a less formal setting. Mayor Mack Durham is proposing a second and fourth Tuesday meeting each month in addition to the town’s regular council meeting held on the first Monday of each month.

Mayor Durham said, “There has been interest in getting together more often to discuss local issues between council members in a group setting.”

Durham is planning an early morning meeting at 7 a.m. and an eveing meeting at 6:30 p.m. on the days of the work sessions “to make sure everyone (council) has an opportunity to meet.”

Durham said the first session will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 a.m. at Town Hall. Another session will be offered the same day at 6:30 p.m.

Proper notice and an agenda will be posted, according to the mayor. “There is no intention to conduct business other than discussion of current issues and possible strategies or solutions,” he said. Under SC Freedom of Information Laws, the meetings are open to the public.
