The Town of Williamston, and Williamston Police Department along with community, religious, business and Hispanic leaders, are organizing a Festival of Unity “Festival de la Union” to be held this Saturday in Mineral Spring Park.

The public is invited to celebrate the event and help encourage the Hispanic community to openly join the township of Williamston. The festival, which has the theme of “Uniting Our Community” will include celebration, prayer, friendship, food and entertainment.

Williamston Mayor Mack Durham, members of Town Council and Police Chief Tony Taylor will participate in the event.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with opening remarks and welcome starting the day. The event is another effort by the police department and the town to reach out through the Community Action Network initiative. The goal is to help with community policing efforts within the town.

Chief Taylor will explain law enforcement standards to help fight crime within the Hispanic community and to be more comfortable in approaching the police to report crime.

Chief Taylor said he expects to bridge the Hispanic community and let them know that they do not need to be silent victims of crimes occurring in the Town of Williamston and that they are considered members of this community as well.

Everyone is invited.
