County opens Civic Center as shelter from cold

Due to the impending, possibly severe cold weather expected for the area tonight and into Tuesday, Anderson County will be opening the Anderson County Civic Center as a shelter beginning at 6 pm Monday eveieng. Staffing will be provided by various County agencies to assist citizens during this time of need. The center will be available for anyone who has emergency heating needs.

Sheriff John Skipper urges citizens to take advantage of the shelter and discourages them from using unsafe secondary heating, such as kerosene heaters. Snacks and water will be available. The center will be pet friendly.

Anyone who needs transportation to the Civic Center may contact Anderson County Emergency Services at (864) 260-4444. Transportation will be provided by Anderson County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers.

The center’s availability on Tuesday and/or Wednesday night will be determined based on need.
