Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies and SLED officers are investigating a shooting incident in Piedmont. According to Anderson County Sheriff’s office spokesperson Sheila Cole, Billy Joe Crane, 27 suffered a non-life threatening wound when he was shot by a sheriff’s deputy during an incident this morning (Thursday). The incident occurred on Archie St. in Piedmont at approximately 11 a.m. According to Cole, Crane was driving a black vehicle which was sitting in a driveway next to a red truck the Sheriff’s Office had a BOLO for.

(Deputies and SLED agents with a red truck and black car involved in the incident.) Cole said an Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputy was in the area earlier Thursday morning looking for a red truck and possible stolen items and for Holdbrooks who had outstanding warrants.

An officer patroling the area a while later spotted the red truck. Upon investigation, a black vehicle with two occpants was sitting in the driveway of the same residence, Cole said. When the offcer went to talk to the two occupants, one yelled go and the car backed into the officer, Cole said.

The officer did get out of the way and fired his weapon striking Crane one time, according to Cole. Crane was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening wound.

The passenger in the vehicle was Jeremia Johnston Holdbrooks, 29 of Piedmont. Holdbrooks had outstanding warrants for driving under suspension, wreckless driving and failure to stop for a blue light.

He was taken into custody and was being questioned approximately three hours after the incident began.
