DAN RAWLS
PIEDMONT – Greenville County Councilman Dan Rawls, 72, of Piedmont, husband of Brenda Culbertson Rawls, died Monday, February 17, 2014.
Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Walt Wooten and Lola Hughes.
Councilman Rawls was a retired homebuilder who advocated for home builders on local, state, and national levels. He won the National Housing Endowment Builder Achievement Award for Outstanding Community Service in 2007. Governor Jim Hodges appointed him Chairman of the South Carolina State Housing, Finance and Development Authority, where he served from 2001-2006.
He was serving his first term representing District 26 on the Greenville County Council and previously served on the Greenville County Planning Commission, the County Tree Committee, and the Greenville Delegation Transportation Committee.
Dan helped establish the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum and worked on the expansion of the Ronald McDonald House, where he served on the Board of Directors for 15 years. He also served as president of the Piedmont Lions Club.
In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, he is survived by children, Bill Rawls; Katrina Worthen and husband, Kenny; grandchildren, Karley, Kaitlyn, Kinlie, Madelyn, and Danielle; sister, Carol Bannister and husband, Larry; nieces, Kimberly Reid and Christina Bannister; nephew, Buster Reid and wife, Barbara; and great-niece, Kirstin.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JERRY LEE JONES
Jerry Lee Jones, 82, of Pelzer, husband of Helen Frost Jones, died Sunday, February 16, 2014.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Rex and Marie O’Shields Jones.
Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Navy and Army. He retired as a manager from Eight O’Clock Superett and was a member of Grove Road Baptist Church.
In addition to his loving wife of 13 years, he is survived by children, Donna McCauley, Mike Jones (Allison), Rodger Jones, Tammie Stewart (Ronnie), Tina Duncan (Stanley), and Kelly Sloan (Randy); 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Roberts Jones; son, Terry Jones; daughter, Myra Craft; and brother, David Jones.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Graceland East Memorial Park.

CAROLINE MARIE VAUGHN
Caroline Marie Vaughn, age 43, of Williamston, SC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 13, 2014 at her home.
Born Feb. 27, 1970, Caroline was the daughter of Linda Blanton Watson and the late Frankie Watson.
Surviving are two sons, Kyle Vaughn and Tyler Wooten, both of Belton, SC; brothers, Randy Watson (Cheri) of Honea Path, Charles Watson (Stephanie) of Anderson, SC.
A family Committal Service will be held at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to service.

MIGUEL VASQUEZ
Miguel A. Vasquez, 66, of Piedmont, husband of Frances Collins Vasquez, died February 15, 2014 at his home.
Born in Quito, Ecuador, he was a son of Miguel Angel Vasquez and Ibelia Vasquez.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Cristina Strasser of Ibarra, Ecuador; son, Lt. Miguel A. Vasquez of Satellite Beach, Fl.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, February 19 at Waycross Baptist Church, Pelzer.

“PREACHER BILL” ELLISON
WILLIAMSTON – Rev. John William “Preacher Bill” Ellison, husband of Robbie Hart Ellison, died February 15, 2014.   Born March 21, 1940, he was a son of the late Clyde David and Betty Rhoads Ellison.  He was a Southern Baptist minister for 50 years having served Friendship Baptist Church, Abbeville, for 18 years, Bountyland Baptist Church, Seneca, for 19 years and in 15 interim positions since 2000.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William David Ellison (Kim) of Seneca; sister, Jeanette Rhodes (Spud) of Williamston; grandson, Kacy Ellison; and nephew, Mark Rhodes.
Visitation was held from 2:00 until 3:00 pm Sunday, February 16, at Whitefield Baptist Church, Belton, the funeral service followed at 3:00.  Burial was held at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Belton.

HELEN HAYES
WILLIAMSTON–God’s loving arms carried our precious wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Helen Lucille Hall Hayes, to her heavenly home on Friday, February 14, 2014.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Claude Henry and Ollie Mae Hollingsworth Hall.  Mrs. Hayes retired from Cryovac in Simpsonville and was a member of Pelzer Church of God.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Lee Hayes; daughter, Carol Bear and her husband Jimmy of Williamston; grandchildren, Jason Bear and Dawn Calvert; great-grandchildren, Amber Hall, Seth, Saylor and Ben Bear, Matthew Garrison, Luke Dobbins and T.J. Reed.
She was predeceased by sons, Terry Lee and Billy R. “Gabby” Hayes; brother, Fate Hall; and grandson, Jamie Hayes.
Visitation was from 3:00 until 4:30 Sunday, February 16, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.  The funeral service was held Monday at 3:00 at Pelzer Church of God. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.
The family is at the home of Carol and Jimmy Bear, 20 River Dr. Extension.

SARA COX
Sara Smith Cox, 88, of Williamston, widow of the late Leland M. Cox, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at her home.
Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Hokie Mullikin Smith. She was a secretary with Martin and Martin Auction and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Surviving are two grandchildren; and sister, Ruth McPherson of Williamston.
Funeral services were held Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. Burial followed at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.

JANIE DYER
Janie Irene Evitt Dyer, 73, of Piedmont, widow of Harve Porter Dyer, Jr., died Tuesday, February 11, 2014.
Born in Jackson County, NC, she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Janie Gerstel Moss Evitt. She was a former dietician at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are daughters, Angela Freeman and Brandy Duncan; sister, Christine Gross; brothers, Harley and Walter Evitt; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Tuesday at the Gray Mortuary Chapel in Pelzer. Burial followed at the Evitt Mountain Cemetery in Cashiers, NC.

GLORIA FRANCES WALDRUP WALLS
Gloria Walls, 67, wife of the late William Otis Walls, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Elbert “Slim” Lamar Waldrup, Sr., and the late Ruth Cox Waldrup.
She was retired from Ellenburg Nursing Home.
Surviving are sons, Michael Walls of Moore, Mark Walls of Palm Harbor, FL; daughters, Cathy Gray of Anderson, Sandy Blackwell of Easley; brother, Thomas Hall Waldrup of Woodruff; sisters, Clarice Waldrup Griffin of Elizabethtown, KY, Elaine Waldrup Gilbert of Anderson, Nancy Waldrup Arnold of Piedmont, Carolyn Waldrup Kelley of Townville, Edna Waldrup Bratcher of Honea Path, and Diane Waldrup of Anderson; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Tuesday in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.
