The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has charged Joshua Logan Hoover, age 24, of Piedmont SC, with Attempted Murder, Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle, and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime in connection with an incident of road rage earlier this month.

According to the Feb. 7 incident report, John Mize was on his way to work, driving on Hwy. 29 North toward I-85, when a silver Toyota Tacoma truck drove up behind him at a high rate of speed. Mize stated that he moved over to the right lane to allow the truck to pass.

However, a short time later, as both vehicles merged onto I-85, the Toyota, which was again following Mize, pulled around him in the right-hand lane. At that time, the driver (later identified as Joshua Hoover) made an obscene gesture at Mize then fired one shot through Mize’s passenger side door.

The bullet lodged in the vehicle’s center console. Mize was unharmed.

Hoover, who turned himself into deputies at the Sheriff’s Office yesterday, is currently being held at the Anderson County Detention Center. Bond has been set at $50,000.

Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said, “A license to drive does not afford anyone the right to engage in this type of senseless violence.”
