A Williamston police officer has been placed on administrative leave as a result of his arrest for criminal domestic violence last Saturday.

Williamston Police Chief Tony Taylor confirmed that Officer Christopher Shaw Whitfield has been removed from active duty pending the disposition of his case.

An incident report obtained from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office shows that Deputy Patrick Thompson responded to a call from Amy Whitfield, who had left the residence following the incident.

According to the report, the couple was involved in a dispute over a cell phone, and when she attempted to leave the house, Whitfield blocked the door and pushed her back. She then managed to leave and called 911.

Chief Taylor said that Whitfield has been with the department for more than a year, and has had no other trouble. The placing of Whitfield on administrative leave is standard procedure in such a case.
