The Piercetown Fire Department Rescue 13 response truck was sturck by a vehicle while the department was working an accident on I-85 Wednesday evening. The Piercetown Fire Department and the SC Highway Patrol were dispatched to an accident near the 29 mile marker on I-85 at 9:35. Hopewell and Wren Fire Departments also responded.
While on the scene of the first accident, a red sport utility vehicle rearended the Piercetown rescue truck causing considerable damage to both vehicles. The sport utility was smoking as firefighters worked to extricate the occupants. Two people were injured, however details were not available at time of posting.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said one injured person was flown and another transported by EMS to Greenville Memorial Hospital, but there were not fatalities. The accidents blocked both laned of I-85 north for approximately two hours.
