DORIS HOWARD
PELZER – Doris Thurston Howard, 88, of Pelzer, widow of William Lee Howard, died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at her home.
Born in Conestee, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Lucy McClain Thurston. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Surviving are daughters, Brenda H. Watson (Beedie) and Janet H. Upchurch (Lewis), both of Pelzer; sister, Beatrice T. Sullivan, of Piedmont; grandchildren, David and Mindy Watson, Melissa and Allen Cagle and Jennifer Upchurch; and great-grandchildren, Wesley Cagle and Maddy Watson.
She was predeceased by siblings, Daisy T. Allison, Lillie T. Reid, Freddie Stone, Frank, Jessie C., Dewey and Roy Thurston.
Visitation was held Wednesday, July 9 from 1-2 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral following at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

DAVID HORNE
PELZER – David Allen Horne, 65, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Jack B. and Margaret Elizabeth Sweezy Horne.
He was a ten year member of the Hells Angels Greenville Charter.
Surviving are daughter, Chelsea Horne, son, David Horne, both of the home and wife, Karin Horne; step-daughters, Ashley Pelt of Greenville, NC, Emily Farmer of Hamden, OH; brother, Gerald L. Horne of Ninety Six; sisters, Sherin H. Gonce of Greenwood, Pamela H. Fortner of Ninety Six; three step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brother, Jack R. Horne; nephew, Jeff S. Horne; niece, Erica L. Rushton.
Visitation was held from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
A memorial service followed at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Byron Wood officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Burton Center in memory of Erica L. Rushton, 2605 Hwy 72/221 East, Greenwood, SC 29649.

JEAN BARBRE
Jean McClain Barbre, 67, of Piedmont, widow of Keith “Butch” Barbre, died Sunday, June 29, 2014.
Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late John Mark McClain.
Surviving are daughters, Donna Barbre Babb of Pelzer, Kendra Barbre of the home; sons, Keith “Breezy” Barbre and Ken Barbre, both of Piedmont; sisters, Katie Lark and Rhonda McEuen; brothers, Mark and Mitchell McClain; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Wednesday in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.  Burial followed in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery, Piedmont.
The family is at the home of her son, 29 Haynes Street, Piedmont.

HARVEY ELISHA BROCK
Harvey Elisha Brock, 90, of Anderson, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at NHC in Anderson.
Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late William Fletcher Brock and the late Nan Brock.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his daughters, Annette Powell of Williamston, and Janice Vermillion of Starr; son, Gary Brock of Calhoun, GA; three step-daughters, Judy, Dianna and Kim; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Faye Nation Brock.
A graveside service was held at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, July 3.

FAYE BROWNING
Faye Welborn Browning, 89, of Williamston, widow of Jack L. Browning, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Pret and Lessie Fleming Welborn.  She was a member of Williamston First Baptist Church and the owner/operator of Faye’s Beauty Shop.
She is survived by sister, Shirley McAlister of Pelzer; and brother, Herbert Welborn of Rock Hill.
The funeral service was held Tuesday  in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family is at their respective homes.

BOBBY LEE HAGANS
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Bobby Lee Hagans was held Saturday, July 5, 2014 at New Friendship Baptist Church, 3298 Keowee Road, Honea Path. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Hagans of the home; brother, Jesse Hagans of Hazlehurst, GA; sister, Jennie Pearl Johnson of Levittown, PA.
He was the son of the late Homer and Zuda Hagans.

BILL BLACK
PIEDMONT – William “Bill” Randolph Black, 84, husband of Shirley Williams Black, passed away July 7, 2014.
Born in the White Plains Community of Anderson County, he was a son of the late John Christopher and Hattie Payne Black.  He retired from J.P. Stevens/Delta Woodside and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Bill was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church where he was a life-time deacon, a member of the choir, and taught Sunday School for 45 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Randy Black (Kandy) and Steve Black (Lisa), all of Piedmont; sister, Frances Morgan Brumfield; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by nine siblings.
Visitation was held from 10 – 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Mountain Springs Baptist Church.
The funeral service followed at 11 a.m. at the church.  Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JESSIE MAE BAWKUM COX
Jessie Mae Bawkum Cox, 92, widow of Albert James Cox, died Thursday, July 3, 2014.
Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester Briggs and Eula Vanadore Bawkum.
Retired from Gerber Childrenswear, she was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church in Belton.
Surviving are daughters, Elaine Durham and husband Hugh, Donnave “Donna” Parks and husband, Boyce, and Becky Brady and husband, Ray, all of Williamston; sons, James A. “Jim” Cox and wife Pat of Pelzer and Tim Cox and wife Elisa of Williamston; grandchildren, Teri C. Gilstrap (Greg), Adam Cox (Melanie), Grey Parks (Abbie), Brandon Cox (Laura), West Cox (Caroline), and Kate Brady; great grandchildren, Christian Gilstrap, Sadie and Stella Parks, Thomas and Anna Claire Cox and Mavis Cox.
Mrs. Cox was the last member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by sisters, Mary King, Ruth Johnson, Rosa Bagwell, and Naomi Bawkum, and brothers, Carl, William “Shorty”, John, Joe, David “Fuzzy” and Donald Ray Bawkum.
The family would like to thank Nancy Christopher for her love and care.
Visitation was held Saturday 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. at Whitefield Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

RALPH CLAYTON CAMPBELL
PIEDMONT – Ralph Clayton Campbell, Jr., 81, of Piedmont, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 27, 2014 after a decline in health.
Born in the Daventon Church community, he was the only child of the late Ralph C. “Ted” and Dora Ellison Campbell. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served in the Korean War.
Mr. Campbell was employed at Keys Printing in Greenville, and retired from Hart Graphics in Simpsonville. He was a member and former deacon of West Gantt First Baptist Church. A lifelong musician, he played lead guitar in the country music band The Tune Twisters.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Iva Dell Kelly Campbell; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Campbell (Kathy) of Powdersville, Charles Campbell (Ann) of Anderson, and Barry Campbell (Amy) of Mauldin; six grandchildren, Chris (Katie), Josh (Margaret), Austin (Meg), Carlie Campbell, Sara and Shane Blackhurst; and two great-grandchildren, Bella and Brayden.
Visitation was held Monday, June 30, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at West Gantt First Baptist Church with the funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial followed the service at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Gantt First Baptist Church, 1452 White Horse Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
Mr. Campbell’s family would like to thank the DCI Dialysis Clinic of Greenville for the heartfelt care given over the last four years.

WILLIE E. “GENE” NEELY
Willie E. “Gene” Neely, 56, was the son of Jim and Nannie Haynes Neely.
He died at his home in Nashville, TN, June 27, 2014.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Mason Neely of the home and step-sons, Steve and Mark Mason of Nashville, TN.
He is also survived by his father, Jim Neely and wife Elaine; and sisters, Robin Neely Crawford and Karen Neely Cochrane, all of Williamston.
He was predeceased by his mother Nannie Belle.
A memorial service was held at Woodbine Mortuary on June 30 in Nashville, TN.

MARY BELLE GAMBRELL
Mary Belle Gambrell, 100,  of Belton, widower of Otis Allen Gambrell, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the daughter of the late Thelmer and Azzalee Lollis.
She was a homemaker and a member of Dorchester Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons, James Gambrell of Pendleton, Leroy Gambrell of Honea Path, Harold Gambrell of Williamston; daughters, Cecil Gambrell of Belton, Betty Cowart of Honea Path, Mildred Alewine, Shirley Kelly, Judy Kelly, all of Belton; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Dorchester Baptist Church. Burial followed.
