JOYCE SMITH
Joyce Bridges Teal Smith, 79, of Piedmont, widow of Bobby Joe Smith, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
She was twice married, first to the late Charles Teal.
Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late E. G. and Annie Irene Waldrop Bridges. She was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and retired from J. P. Stevens Plant.
Surviving are sons, Danny Teal of Piedmont and Charles “Eddie” Teal of the home; daughter, Kathy Berry of Honea Path; step-daughters, Sherry Elrod and Rene Collins, both of Greenville; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Friday at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JOHNNY BURGESS OWENS
Johnny Burgess Owens, 70, husband of Scarlett Reynolds Owens, died Friday, August 15, 2014.
Born in Anderson County, he was the son of Doris Patterson Owens of Piedmont and the late Raymond Burgess Owens.  He was the maintenance foreman at the Piedmont Estes plant and later at Gibbs International in Spartanburg.
Additional family members include daughters, Candace Turner and Shannon Wyatt, both of Piedmont; son, Michael Owens, also of Piedmont; brothers, Richard and Tony Owens; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The memorial service was held Monday, August 18, at Gray Mortuary Chapel.

IRENE CLEVENGER
Myrtle Irene Clevenger, 93, of Piedmont,  died August 11, 2014.
Born in W. Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Harry Hellams and Nettie Brown Clevenger.
She was the last member of her immediate family. She was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church and retired from J. P. Stevens, Piedmont Plant.
A graveside service was held Saturday, August 23, at at Rehoboth Baptist Church.

HENRY KIRK
Henry Hawkins Kirk, 89, of Greenville, husband of Nellie Thurston Kirk, died August 16, 2014.
Born in Madison County, GA, he was a son of the late Bedford C. and Gracie McCarty Kirk.  A U.S. Army veteran in WWII, he also retired from J.P. Stevens-White Horse plant as a mechanical supervisor. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Lee Kirk of Easley; brothers, Wade and George Kirk; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, August 20, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at M.J. Dolly Cooper Cemetery.

JOHN McCOY
PIEDMONT – John Milton McCoy, 80, husband of Marian Sue Plumblee Burgess, died August 14, 2014.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Joseph Iola and Ila Hodgens McCoy. He was retired owner/operator of McCoy Motors and a former Magistrate for Anderson County.  John was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church, the Piedmont Lions Club, and a lifetime member of the S.C. Summary Court Judges Association.  He was also a member of Grove Station Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Sister Jan McCoy of Crozet, VA; son, Terry McCoy (Anna) of Piedmont; grandchildren, Carson and Emma Kate McCoy of Piedmont, Dustin Ousley of Columbia; sister, Dora Lee Weisner of Greenville.
He was predeceased by the mother of his children, Nell McCoy; sisters, Eva Roper, Edna Keasler, Ovaline McCoy; brothers, Joe and Herman McCoy.
Visitation was held from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19 at Mountain Springs Baptist Church.
The funeral service followed at 2:00 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be at Graceland West Cemetery.

CHARLES FOOSHE
Charles Edward Fooshe, 93, formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Quillen Manor in Fountain Inn.
Born in McCormick, he was the son of the late P.G. and Lucy Fooshe.
He retired from Dealers’ Supply and Lumber Co. and was a WWII U.S. Navy Corpsman veteran. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Fountain Inn.
Surviving are his daughter, Susan F. Peterson of Pelzer, step-son, Ronald McMahan of Charleston; sister, Helen Hans of Greenwood; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Elma H. Fooshe, and his last wife, Frances McMahan Fooshe.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, August 20 in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Overbrook Cemetery in McCormick.

WALTER DANIEL EDWARDS
Walter Daniel Edwards, 66, of Greenville, died Friday, August 15, 2014.
Born in Piedmont, he was the son of the late William “Billy” and Louise Brown Edwards. He was the husband of the late Sandra McKay Edwards.
He is survived by three daughters, Teresa Ferguson of Greenville, Sandi Ballew of Piedmont, and Kathy Hartsell of Laurens; two sisters Wanda Robinson and Pat Duncan; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, August 20 in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

WILLIE L. BOLDEN SR.
A celebration service honoring the life of Mr. Willie L. Bolden, Sr. was held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Welfare Baptist Church in Belton. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Willie L. Bolden, Jr. of Powdersville, Mark A. Bolden of Central, James C. Bolden of Allentown, Melinda J. Bolden of the home, and Robin Sherard of Okinawa, Japan; several grand and great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late James and Sarah E. Bolden. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Sue Bolden.

CORA LEE NIX LARK
Cora Lee Nix Lark, 99, wife of the late James Dewey Lark, died Thursday, August 14, 2014.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Nancy Estar Crenshaw.
She retired from Sangamo Electric and was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Shirley Batson of Pickens, Nancy Looper of Dacusville, and Beverly Willimon of Powdersville; sons, James Marcus Lark of Greenwood and Larry Joe Lark of Clover; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alton Nix of Athens, GA.
Funeral service was held Sunday, August 17 at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

MARGARET B. PRATT
Margaret B. Pratt, 79, of West Columbia, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Edward and Ollie Blackston of Anderson and Greenville Counties.
She retired from Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse “Jack” Pratt; son, Jon Pratt of Boothbay Harbor, ME; and one grandson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 16 at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

JENNIE MERCK
Jennie Patterson Merck, 88, of Cateechee, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the home of her daughter.
Born in Oconee County, she was the widow of Lawrence C. “Boots” Merck and a daughter of the late G.C. and Daisy Dean Patterson.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Cateechee Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Melton of Liberty and Carol Holliday of Six Mile; sister, Mildred Merck of Six Mile; three brothers, Russell Patterson of Florida, Winfred Patterson of Williamston, and Dennis Patterson of Liberty; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Cateechee Baptist Church. Burial followed at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

‘RICK’ BIGBEE
Richard Paul Bigbee, 51, of Powdersville, died Friday, August 14, 2014.
Born in McMinnville, TN, he was son of Dr. Wallace B. Bigbee, Sr. and the late Ilalie Tucker Bigbee.
He is survived by his wife, Allison Robinson Bigbee; son, Wesley McDaniel Bigbee; father and step-mother, Wallace and Patricia Bigbee; and brothers, Randy and Wallace Bigbee.
He was employed at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service was held Sunday, August 17 at Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek.

VALERIE E. KAY
WILLIAMSTON-Valerie E. Kay, 56, wife of Ben J. Kay, Jr., died Sunday, August 17, 2014.
Born in California, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Marilyn Miller Hilton. She was a member of Williamston Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as Mission Director and formerly employed with Nutra Manufacturing in Pendleton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Benjamin Lee Kay (Nicole) of the home, Brian J. Kay of Williamston and Larry Wayne Seals of Abbeville; step-sons, Jeffery S. Kay of Belton and William Jerry Kay of Lavonia, GA; brothers, Jesse D. Hilton of Honea Path, Jim Hilton of Iva and Jon L. Hilton of Belton; and grandchildren, Collin Jefferson Seals, Emaline Marie Kay, Derin Kay and Ainslie B. Kay.
Visitation was 6 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 19 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service was held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

DYLAN JAMES ALLEY
May 27, 1994 – July 19, 2014
Dylan James Alley, of Piedmont, died July 19, 2014.
He was son of Billy and Kim Rhodes Alley.
His grandparents were the late Kenneth Rhodes, Mike and Sue McNeill and Jimmy and Linda Alley.
He attended Will Lou Gray Academy.
Cremated (Cremation Society of SC) Services were held July 22 at Church of God of Prophecy in Conestee.

Jeffrey Wayne Greggs, 51, of Greenville, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 at his home.
Born in Greenville, he was the son of Alic e Greggs and the late George R. Greggs.
Surviving in addition to his mother are sisters, Sharon Thompson of Mauldin and Lisa Bazemore of Greenville; and brothers, Randall Greggs of Piedmont and Steven Greggs of Greenville.
Funeral service was held Sunday, August 17 at Watkins Garrett and Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Troy Thomas McNeely, 73, of Easley, husband of Ethel Harrison McNeely, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home.
Born in Powdersville, he was a son of the late Clyde and Irene Orr McNeely. He was a self-employed drywall contractor and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Tony McNeely; daughter, Julie McNeely; brothers, Cecil McNeely, Harold McNeely, Louie McNeely and Ted McNeely; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 20 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Jane Burns Brown, of Laurens, widow of John Milton Brown, Jr., died Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
She is survived by a son, John William Brown of Laurens; three daughters, Lynn B. Harris of Pawley’s Island, Rosemary B. Workman of Myrtle Beach, and Donna B. Ledbetter of Shelby, NC; sister, Pat B. Parsons of Pelzer; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
