Formerly the Williamston Area Historic Commission, the Williamston Historic Commission (WHC) recently dropped the word “Area” and redesigned the organization’s logo. “Given the recent establishment of the Main Street Williamston initiative, the moves were made to be more consistent with the growing economic and preservation developments,” said founding member Jonathan Fowler. The logo, designed by the same firm responsible for the town’s branding, pays homage to the Gossett School with the primary image being a representation of the building’s ornate windows.

Coming this Fall, the WHC will sponsor an Oral History Project with help from local schools and colleges. Beyond the written histories and photographs, there are thousands of stories from Williamston’s past that should be recorded for future citizens to hear. More details will follow. If you are interested in telling your stories, please contact Jonathan Fowler at (864) 245-7567 or visit the WHC Facebook page. WHC’s Facebook page, facebook.com/historicwilliamston, will also feature photos and trivia
