CHRISTIAN HENDERSON

PIEDMONT – Christian Taylor Henderson, 9, son of Chet Henderson and Jana Arrowood passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014.

He was a student in the 4th grade at Powdersville Elementary School.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sister, Cierra Henderson; grandparents, John and Vickie Arrowood, Chester and Teresa Henderson; and great-grandparents, Robert and Leila Henderson, and Vera Allen.

Visitation was held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday at Rehoboth Baptist Church. The funeral followed at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

A memorial fund has been set up at BB&T in Christian’s memory in the name of Jana Arrowood where donations may be made.

The family is at the home of Vickie Arrowood, 118 Madison Ridge Rd., Piedmont.

WOODROW HULETT SELMAN

Hulett Selman, 84, of Williamston, died on September 3, 2014.

He was a son of the late Eugene and Mary Farmer Selman.

Survivors include a sister, Mary McEntire.

Graveside service was held on Saturday, September 6 in the Beaverdam Church Cemetery.

JANICE WADE

Janice Reid Wade, 74, of Williamston, widow of Jerry Wade, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph William and Edna Gillespie Reid.  She was retired from Ingles in Piedmont.

Surviving are son, Gregory Thurston of Piedmont; daughters, Cathy Worsham and Lisa King, both of Williamston; sisters, Shirley Leiber of Norwood, Nancy Thornall of Summerville, Regina Prater of Greenville.

Funeral service and entombment was held Monday at the Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.

AGNES MORGAN

Agnes McMahan Morgan, 91, widow of the late Dr. (Edgar) Carter Morgan, died Friday, August 29, 2014 at Lila Doyle Nursing Home.

She was a Southern Baptist Missionary serving in Hawaii, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Ernestine Major McMahan.

She was a member of Westminster Baptist Church.

Surviving is her son, Joel Morgan of Brunswick, NY.

Funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 8 at Westminster Baptist Church. Entombment followed in Oconee Memorial Park Mausoleum.

SYLVIA McLAUGHLIN

Sylvia Patricia Ann McLaughlin, 67, of Piedmont, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Fleming and Demorris Gamble.

Surviving are a son, William Walton Jr.; sisters, Mildred Davis of Piedmont, Cathy Jones Smith of Burke, VA; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday, September 7 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary with private burial.

GRADY LEWIS

ANDERSON – Grady Guy Lewis, 83, husband of Shelby Davis Pinyan Lewis, died Monday, September 8, 2014.

Born in Elberton, GA, he was the son of the late Owen Leonard and Ruby Rhinehart Lewis. He was retired from Cushman Mill and a member of the Williamston Church of God. He served in the South Carolina National Guard.

Mr. Lewis was twice married, first to the late Sue Bearden Lewis.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, David Lewis and Leonard Lewis of Williamston; daughters, Susan Slaton of Townville, Lisa Wright of Anderson, IN and Sharon Bailey of Williamston; step-children, Bobby Pinyan, Jr. of Anderson, Karen Thompson of Belton and Kim Cribbs of Westerville, OH; sisters, Sarah Tesner of Piedmont, Ellen Chapman of Belton and Linda Heatherly of Enoree; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by son, Grady Guy Lewis, Jr. and sisters, Geneva Mitchell and Frances Lewis.

Visitation was held from 7:00 – 9:00 pm Tuesday, September 9 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 10 at the Williamston Church of God. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Anderson.

SILAS BROOKS, JR.

Silas Brooks, Jr., 90, of Belton, widower of Nora Walls Brooks, died Friday, September 5, 2014.

Born in Belton, he was a son of the late, Silas and Lois Clark Brooks, Sr. A United States Navy World War II veteran, he was also a retired brick mason and carpenter. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughters, Mae Carol Phelps of Pickens, Beverly Selman of Lexington and Vickie Lynn Sutherland of Anderson; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, September 8 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

KAREN HOLT

GREENVILLE – Karen Michelle Holt, 56, died September 4, 2014 of natural causes at her home in Mauldin.

Karen was a much beloved daughter, sister and child of God.  She will be greatly missed by her family and beloved cat, Winston.

Karen was a graduate of Clemson University as an environmental engineer and a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

She leaves behind parents, Lowell E. and Nancy P. Holt of Piedmont; sister, Joni Holt of West Pelzer; brother, David (Victoria) Holt of Easley; son, Ryan Wagner of Aiken; nieces, Sara (Ben) Callis, Katherine (Kent) Cox of Florida; great-nephews, Garrison and Gabriel Callis of Abilene, TX.

Graveside services were held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Guthrie Grove Church Cemetery.

‘FRED’ GILREATH, SR.

Frederick “Fred” Lewis Gilreath, Sr., 71, of Williamston, husband of Shelby Carter Gilreath, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Virgil and Hattie Lee Dean Gilreath.  He was formerly employed with the Kendall Company and the Beattie Plant.  Fred was also a retired plumber and a member of the Williamston Church of God.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Freddy Gilreath of Belton, Mark Carter of Anderson; two nieces reared in the home, Maria Owen and Cathy Spearman; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Thelma Shirley of Greenville, Edna Lollis of Williamston; brother, Johnny Gilreath of Anderson.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Williamston Church of God.

The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BRAD ALEN SULLIVAN

Brad Allen Sullivan, 32, of Piedmont, died September 1, 2014.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Stanton; Melanie Sullivan;  mother of their two children, Amaya and Declan; and daughter, Jade Calhoun of Indiana.

He was employed with Verizon and Windstream.

There will be no formal service in Greenville.

IRENE HAYNES WHITE

Irene Haynes White, 91, of Greenville, was born in Greenwood to the late Henry Allen Haynes and Margaret Scoggins.

She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters,  Judy Turner of Powdersville and Barbara Taylor of Hubert, NC; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be held Friday, September 12 at noon in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home with entombment following in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 to 12 noon in the funeral home.
