HENRY SIMS

PELZER – William Henry “Buddy” Sims, 91, husband of 71 years to Marion Davis Sims, died Friday, October 10, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Henry Baskell and Beatrice King Sims. He was retired from Michelin, and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Debbie Martin of Williamston and Becky Sims Cassell (Mike) of Easley; son Keith Sims of Florida; sister, Audrey Sims Martin of Anderson; grandchildren, Jeff Martin, Joey Martin, and Ashley Sims Leitherer; great-grandchildren, Alexandria Martin, Jayse Martin, Eliana Martin and Alexis Leitherer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Raymond Sims and Furman Sims; and son-in-law, George Martin.

A celebration of life service was 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12 at New Hope Baptist Church, Pelzer with burial in the church cemetery. Family dinner followed in the church social hall.

JERRY A. STARGEL

WILLIAMSTON—Jerry Arnold Stargel, 76, husband of Wilola James Stargel, died Sunday, October 12, 2014.

Born in Walhalla, he was the son of the late Arnold Andrew and Jessie Mae Brewer Stargel. He was a United States Navy Veteran and a retired detective lieutenant from the Greenville Police Department. He was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael Stargel of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Donna S. Smith (Mike) of Easley; sisters, Joan Smith (Charles) of Pelzer, Brenda Garrison (Dick) of Anderson, Jane Cohenour (Don) of Campobello; grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith, Joshua Smith (Lara), Elijah Stargel; and great-grandchildren, Emma Smith and Reagan Smith.

Visitation was held from 10:00—11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 15 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. The funeral service followed at 11:30 a.m. Burial  immediately followed in the church cemetery.

FRANCES SINGLETON

PELZER – Frances Elrod Singleton, 89, widow of James Ralph Singleton, Sr., died Sunday, October 12, 2014.

Born in Belton, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Texie Ellison Elrod.  She was a homemaker, a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church, and loved to fish.

Surviving are son, Jimmy Singleton (Jane) of Williamston, daughter, Theresa Crawford (Tim) of Belton; son-in-law, Jim Darby of Pelzer; sister, Daisy McConnell of Williamston; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Gail S. Darby, four sisters, and three brothers.

Visitation was held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service followed at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Entombment was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Anderson.

RUBY DEVALL SENTELL

Ruby Devall Sentell, 79, of Abbeville, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 at The Hospice House in Greenwood.

Born in Clinton, she was a daughter of the late Reed William Devall, Sr. and Martha Louise James Devall.

She retired as a manager from Revco and was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Deborah Joyner of Tryon, NC, Patricia Richey, Jeanette Templeton, Susan Whennen and Carolyn Johnson, all of Abbeville; two sisters, Lib Owens of Williamston, and Golden Riddle of Belton; one brother, James C. Devall of Williamston; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 10 in the Chandler Chapel of Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Melrose Cemetery.

FRANCES REEVES MASSINGILL

Frances Reeves Massingill, 75, widow of Ray Lewis Massingill, of Easley, died Wednesday, October 8, 2014.

Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Richard Iler “Pat” and Florence Mildred Simmons Reeves. She retired from The Willows of Easley and was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Chris Massingill of Easley and Robin Massingill of Woodruff; daughter, Vonda Cooley of Abbeville; two brothers, Marcus Reeves of Pickens and Harvey “Buck” Reeves of Vacaville, CA.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 11 at Park Street Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

SPENCER EUGENE CLARK

Spencer Eugene Clark, 19, of Piedmont, son of Jill Anglin Clark and William Denver “Dee” Clark, Jr., died Thursday, October 9, 2014.

Born in Greenville, he graduated from Woodmont High School and attended Waycross Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are grandparents  Gene and Joeanne Anglin of Piedmont, Denny and Emily Clark of Sandy Springs; and brother, Logan Clark.

Funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 13 in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

LYNETIA ANN HOWARD

Lynetia Ann Howard, 54, of Williamston, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014.

She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Salih Howard; sister, Carol Howard; two brothers, Michael Howard Sr., and Julian Howard.

Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Williamston. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

PAT H. DAVIS

Patricia “Pat” Howell Davis, 78, of Greer, widow of Robert Newman Davis, died October 11, 2014 at Greenville Glen Assisted Living.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Ida King Howell.

She retired from Rich’s Department Store and was a charter member of Praise Cathedral.

Surviving are a son, Barry N. Davis of Greer; daughter, Tricia Weston III of Greer; step-daughter, Vonda Arnold of Pelzer; sister, Jewell Stansell of Greer; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Praise Cathedral. Burial followed in Wood Memorial Park.

RAYMOND FRANCIS BABB JR.

Ray Babb Jr. died Oct. 11, 2014.

He was the son of Francis and Eleanor Babb of Piedmont.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Babb; three sons, Michael, Scottie and Justin Babb of Piedmont; three step-children, Nikki, Jessie and Todd; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three sisters, Debra Gill Williams of Pelzer, Lisa Babb of Piedmont, and Belinda Manley of Piedmont.

A memorial service was held Oct. 15 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer.

Memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

NANCY CROWE EVANS

Nancy Crowe Evans, 80, of Piedmont, widow of James O’Neal Evans, died Saturday, October 11, 2014.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Eula Belle Streetman and Lee Thomas Crowe.

She was a member of River Road Baptist Church in Piedmont.

She is survived by two sons, James O’Neal Evans, Jr. and Mark P. Evans, both of Piedmont; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Crowe and Coy Crowe; and one sister, Shelby Garrett.

Funeral service was held Oct. 15 in the chapel of  Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to River Road Baptist Church, 1714 River Rd., Piedmont, SC 29673.

JOYCE MATTISON

Joyce Lucille Strickland Mattison, 71, of Piedmont, widow of Gerald Haynie Mattison, died Monday, October 13, 2014.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Albert David and Nancy Walker Strickland.  She was a homemaker and a member of Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Kenneth Mattison (Melissa) of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and sister, Audrey Scott.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral will follow at 3:00 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
