JAMES EDWARD LAWS

PIEDMONT – James Edward Laws, 83, of Piedmont, died September 28, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Greenville County, on January 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Dewey Weaver Laws, Sr. and the late Myrtle Bishop Laws.

He was a member of Bessie Road Baptist Church and a Veteran of the U.S. army. He retired from the Dunean Plant where he worked. A musician who enjoyed playing the guitar (by ear) the piano, banjo, and mandolin. Edward enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing and taking long rides in the car exploring new areas, and working around the farm on his tractor.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sarah Louree Laws, a son Bobby and wife Debbie from Powdersville; daughter, Barbara Laws Semar and husband Chris, of Piedmont; two brothers and their wives, Junior and Linda Laws; and Henry and Renee Laws; two grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle and husband Michael Willet from Williamston, and Amanda and husband Jason Mitchell from Honea Path, five great-grandchildren, Austin Stoffel,  Aubrey Willett, Ashton Willet, Ethan and Bryce Mitchell.

He was predeceased by a sister, Wilma Laws.

Services were held and conducted Sept. 30, at Bessie Road Baptist Church in Piedmont by Rev. Robert Griswold and Rev. James Julian. Burial was held with Military Honors at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

HULON ARMS

Donald Hulon Arms, 85, died October 15, 2014 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was son of the late James Ernest and Geneva Compton Arms.

He was retired from Southland Life Insurance Company and a member of Washington Baptist Church. He was former pastor of Lake Toxaway Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Winona Sloan Arms of the home; two daughters, Karen Banks of Gaffney and Rita Erwin of Powdersville; son, Brian Arms of Greer; two brothers, J.L. Arms and Alvin Arms, both of Greer; one sister, Evelyn Lynn of Greer; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Washington Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

GARY PARTAIN

Gary Michael Partain, 64, of Piedmont, died Monday, October 13, 2014 at Hosanna Health & Rehab in Piedmont.  Born in Anderson he was a son of the late J.B. and Corrine Bowen Partain.

He was a member of Seneca Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Friday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.  Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

RANDY JOHNSON

Randall Johnson, 60, of Belton, died on Thursday, October 16, 2014.

Surviving are his mother, six children, two siblings and fifteen grandchildren.

The graveside service was held Monday, October 20 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

‘TONI’ GRIFFITH

Maria Antionette Looper Griffith, of Piedmont, wife of William Randall “Randy” Griffith, died October 17, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of Virginia Ford Looper and the late Matthew Eugene Looper. She was a homemaker.

Additional survivors include sons, Matthew Lee Griffith and William Jason Griffith, both of Liberty; sister, Sandra Powell of Honea Path; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, October 21, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

PAM B. LEE

Pamela Kay Brashier Lee, 56, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at her home.

A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, October 21 in the mausoleum chapel at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JOHN CLYDE PORTER

John Clyde Porter, 62, of Pelzer, husband of Jean  Dickerson Porter, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014.

Born in Greenville County he is a son of the late Clyde and Zadie Porter.

John was a member of Williamston First Baptist Church.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  John’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Leah Porter Creel (Greg); three grandchildren, Emma Grace, Molly Addison, and John Luke Creel; two brothers, Eric Porter (Lisa) and Greg Porter (Pam); and a sister, Susan Porter.

The memorial service will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Williamston First Baptist Church with visitation to follow.

DORIS ‘DOOTS’ ANN ALLEN BUNCH

Doris “Doots” Ann Allen Bunch, 77, wife of the late Richard H. Bunch, died Saturday, October 18, 2014.

She was born in Anderson, the daughter of the late Octavia Suddeth Allen and J.B. Allen.

Surviving are children, Susan Bunch Bouvette of Charleston, and Allen Bunch of Inman; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty A. Lollis of Greenville and Geneva “Cherry” Bowling of N. Las Vegas, NV.

THOMAS EUGENE HANNA

Thomas Eugene Hanna, 75, of Piedmont, husband of Shelby Crisp Hanna, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late George Vincent Hanna and the late Margaret Nunnery White.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from a plastic injection molding company. He was a member of Tremont Church of God.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Thomas Michael Hanna.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, October 23 at Tremont Church of God. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m. Thursday, prior to the service at the church. The family is at the home.

GRACE ELLISON

WILLIAMSTON – Annie “Grace” Saxon Ellison, 87, widow of Vance Foster Ellison, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late Claude F. and Elsie Griffin Saxon.  She was retired from Martin Manufacturing and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she belonged to the Heart Sunday School Class.

Surviving are sons, Vance Steven Ellison (Bette Jean) and Phillip Ellison (Barbara), all of Williamston; grandchildren, Julia Nichols (Harold) of Williamston, Van Ellison (Ginger) of Williamston, Lisa Fisher of Williamston, Lori Chapman (Harold) of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Ellison, Kensley , Prestyn,  Dyllon Chapman, Landon Fisher, Steven and Holly Sue Nichols, Skyler Ellison.

Visitation was held from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

The family is at the home.
