The South Carolina Department of Education announced that West Pelzer Elementary School in Anderson District One has been awarded a Distinguished Schools Reward for Performance grant.

They were one of three schools selected as South Carolina’s 2013-14 Title I Distinguished Schools Reward for Performance as defined by the SC ESEA Waiver. The grant is to be used to pay for travel expenses to the 2014 SC Title I Conference. This is the second year in a row that the school has earned this grant.

Jane Harrison, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, said “West Pelzer Elementary is an outstanding school. The teachers do an excellent job in the classroom and students love learning because the teachers make learning relevant to the real world, rigorous and challenging while keeping it fun. Their test scores prove that learning is taking place for all students. I am so proud of them and this is very well deserved recognition.”

Principal Dr. Stacy Hashe stated that West Pelzer Elementary celebrates being recognized as a Title I Distinguished Schools Reward for Performance.  “The grant award will provide our teachers with professional development opportunities which focus on strategies or activities that increase student achievement.  Our teachers, students, and parents should be proud of their successful efforts.
