JANICE SULLIVAN

Janice Kelley Sullivan, 64, of Townville, wife of W. Allen Sullivan, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Ethel Hicks Kelley.

Survivors are son, Randy Sullivan of Easley; daughter, Miranda Haye of Piedmont; sisters, Shirley Sprague and Ethelene Tollison; and five grandchildren.

The funeral was held October 23 in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

VIRGINIA ‘JENNY’ SCOTT

Virginia “Jenny” Burgess Scott, 80, widow of Roscoe L. Scott, Jr., died Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late William Clifton and Jannie Ricketts Burgess.

She was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Malinda Wilson of Orangeburg and Theresa Alewine of Piedmont; sister, Noreen Rowe; brothers, Harrison, Clyde and Edgar Burgess; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 25 in the church sanctuary.

LUREE ELROD

Carrie Luree Stanley Elrod, 89, died Wednesday, October  22, 2014 at Hosanna Health and Rehab of Piedmont.

Born in Warrenton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Stanley and the late Carrie Guy Stanley.

She worked for the polls and was a member of West Gant Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Wade Hampton Elrod; and daughter, Maggie Pearl Elrod of Williamston.

Graveside service was held Friday, October 24 at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

BEN EUGENE HOWARD, SR.

Ben Eugene Howard, Sr., 92, of Piedmont, died Thursday, October 23, 2014.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Avery Justis and Irene Hunt Howard. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, was an aircraft mechanic and was a member of Southside Baptist in Piedmont.

He is survived by five children, Effie H. Bailey, Jeannie H. Snider, Holly H. Dawson, Ben E. Howard, Jr. and Avery Justis Howard; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carroll Avery Howard.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ellen Harris Howard.

Funeral service was held Saturday, October 25 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Committal service was held at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

IRIS HENDERSON

PELZER – Iris C. McDavid Henderson, 88, widow of Ben Henderson, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

She was also the widow of Claude Bowen, Andrew (Buck) McDavid, Robert McDaniel, and Edward Dickson.

Born in Laurens County, she was the daughter of the late James Curtis and Willie Jeanes Culbertson.

She was formerly employed with Carolina Blouse and a homemaker.  She was a member of the Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are children, Charlotte M. Langford of Pelzer, Mickey (Linda) Bowen and Ernie (Margaret) Bowen, both of Williamston; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Wesley Culbertson of Greenville, BJ Culbertson of Greer.

She was predeceased by a son, Billy McDavid.

Visitation was held from 2:00 – 3:00 on Sunday at the Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

The funeral service followed at 3:00 at the church. Burial was at Lickville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

VIRGINIA CLARK STANTON

Virginia Clark Stanton, of West Pelzer, widow of Ernest P. Stanton, died Saturday, October 25, 2014.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Kathleen Landers Clark. She was a childcare provider and a Baptist.

Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Davis of Williamston, and Fay Cooley of Williamston; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Sunday in the mortuary chapel of Gray Mortuary. Burial followed at Forest Lawn, Anderson.

JACK MARTIN

WILLIAMSTON—Jack Page Martin, 76, husband of Dorothy Turner Martin, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014.

Born in West Pelzer, he was the son of the late Clarence Andrew and Velma Day Martin. A US Army veteran, he was also an industrial engineer and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, John Andrew Martin (Debi) of Travelers Rest, and Steve Matthew Martin of Williamston; grandchildren, John Andrew Martin Jr., and Cala Dianne Cater (Zane); and great-grandson, Will Cater.

Visitation was held Tuesday 2:00 until 3:30 p.m., October 28 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral service immediately followed in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

GLORIA MARTIN

Gloria Lorraine Davenport Martin, 69, of Fountain Inn, wife of Danny Carl Martin, died Saturday, October 25, 2014.

Born in Fork Shoals, she was a daughter of the late B.F. and Josephine Elizabeth Sullivan Davenport.  She was formerly employed with The Pantry.

Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Tonia Watkins of Pelzer, Tammy Reed of Piedmont; step-daughter, Tonya Faye Martin Williams of Cookeville, TN; step-son, Anthony Carl Martin of Greenville; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Rollins of Greer, Debbie Saylors of Duncan, Judy Fisher of Destin, FL.

The funeral service was held Tuesday in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

IRENE CRAWFORD

WILLIAMSTON – Betty Irene Durham Crawford, 78, wife of William Clarence Crawford, Jr. died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Johnny (Jack) Lewis and Cleo Holcombe Durham.  She was retired from J. West Manufacturing.

Surviving in addition to her husband are nephew, Keith Durham of Williamston; great- niece and a nephew reared in the home, Makenzie Dawn Durham and Joshua Douglas Durham.

She was predeceased by a brother, John Douglas Durham.

Visitation was held from 2:00 – 3:00 Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral followed at 3:00 in the funeral home chapel.  Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

JERRY GARNER

Jerry Lewis Garner, 76, of Anderson, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Anmed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Charlie and Ethel Darkes Pryor Garner.  He was retired from the Anderson Independent Mail and a member of the National Guard.

Surviving are son, Bruce Garner of the home; daughters, Robin Garner and Paula Kyzer, both of Greenwood; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Doris “Peggy” Garner Austin of Pelzer.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:15 Friday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service will follow at 2:30 at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.

The family members are at their respective homes.

BERNICE HALL ROACH

Bernice Hall Roach, 84, wife of Ray M. Roach, died Sunday, October 26, 2014.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Ruffard and Bula Jo Powell Hall.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving, in addition to her husband are daughter, Cheryl Hill Childress of Simpsonville; son, Sidney Hill of Louisville, KY; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 29 in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.
