DOUGLAS EUGENE COBB

Douglas Eugene Cobb, 86, of Greenville, died November 4, 2014 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Ross and Bertha Cobb.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Lou Cobb of the home; daughters, KerSandra Smith of Greer, LaShun Higdon of Townville, Brenda Martin of Greenville; son, Douglas Selvy Cobb of Portsmouth, VA; sisters, Wilhemenia Alexander of Pendleton, Medora Bradley and Eunice Donald, both of Pelzer; brothers, Julius Cobb of Greenville; Rev. Alphonzo Cobb of Orlando, FL, Joe Louis Cobb of Atlanta, John Henry Sylvester Cobb of Williamston, and Michael Newuiett; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 10 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

LOUISE BEATRICE ‘BEA’ GAILLARD SAXON

Mrs. Saxon was born November 13, 1919 in Pelzer to the late Dock Gaillard and Rachael Pauline Haulkum. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and retired from Wanger Systems.

Surviving are a son, Jerry Saxon and wife Tammy; three daughters, Faye Worth, Pam Stone and Lynn Saxon; daughter-in-law, Gloria Saxon; son-in-law, Bobby Guthrie; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Saxon; a brother, Jeremy Gaillard; two sisters, Bernice Heaton and Vivian Malone; and a granddaughter, Angie Saxon.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Bessie Road Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Robert Griswold. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memory Park.  The family received friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.

BUDDY JONES

Buddy Jones, 82, of Greenville, husband of Jo Ann Porter Jones, died Thursday, November 6, 2014.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Linton L. and Verbie Poston Jones.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from the Greenville Country Club. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a  son, Chris Jones of Piedmont; two daughters, Debbie Carroll of Greenville, and Joni Jones Dilworth of Greer; eight grandchildren; and sister, Ruby Powell of Piedmont.

Funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 9 at Salem United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

HAZEL EVELYN FRANKS MIZE HAWKINS

DUE WEST – Hazel Evelyn Franks Mize Hawkins, 87, formerly of Belton and widow of the late Ralph Mize died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at The Renaissance.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late E.H. and Pauline Franks. She worked in textiles and was a member of Dorchester Baptist Church.

Surviving are: daughter, Barbara Gambrell of Florida; sons, Greg Mize of Belton and Robert Mize of Anderson; grandchildren, Kaci and Mitzi Mize, Keegan Dove, Keenden Worth, Reggy and Robbie Gambrell; several great grandchildren.

Graveside services were held 11:00a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Paul Jackson officiating.

The family received friends following the service at the cemetery.

SHERRY GAINES

Sherry Lynn Morgan Gaines, 55, of Pelzer, wife of Barry Reid Gaines, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of James Wesley and Earline Virgina Weeks Morgan.

She was employed with TNT Color Lab and a member of First Baptist Church in Simpsonville.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are son, Jeremy Cooler of Inman; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Friday in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

HELEN CAMPBELL

PELZER – Helen Babb Campbell, 93, widow of Lewis Tollett Campbell, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at her home.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Robert Edgar and Nancy Scott Babb.  She was a retired teacher from Sue Cleveland Elementary School, a member of Lickville Presbyterian Church, and attended Sandy Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Nancy Rector (Major) and Carolyn Joy, both of Pelzer, oldest daughter, Sarah Young of Piedmont; grandchildren, Jamie Rector, Jeremy Rector (Erica), Beth Joy Reid (Josh), Jonathan Joy (Tanya); great-grandchildren, Carter Adair Rector, Jackie Maria, Alex Rodriguez, Juliana Joy, Cannon Joy, AnaBella Joy; great-great grandchild, Logan Maria.

Visitation was held from 2- 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sandy Springs Baptist Church.

The funeral service followed at 3 p.m. at the church.  Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JAN NORRIS

PIEDMONT – Jan Selena Norris, 70, died Sunday, November 9, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher Anderson and Ruby Mae Shirley Norris. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School and Waldrop’s Beauty School. Jan retired from Amco and attended the First Baptist Church, Williamston.

Surviving are sisters, Frances Harrelson of Greenville, Faye Massingale of Easley and Marcelle Barr of Williamston; special niece, Bethany Bennefield of Piedmont; special nephew, Noah Bennefield of Piedmont; and four other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sister, Shirley Lockaby and niece, Debra Bradley.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 16 at First Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

LULA DIXON

Lula Dixon, 97, of Piedmont, died Monday, November 3, 2014 at her home.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, November 11 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary. A private burial followed.

AMBER HOPE PERKINS

Amber Hope Perkins, 17, of Williamston, died Saturday, November 8, 2014.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of Beth Kay Perkins and the late Brian Keith Perkins.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brother, Dakota Michael Perkins; sisters, Brittany Desiree Perkins and Cheyenne Perkins; and grandparents, Sybil and Buddy Kay and Vera McMahan.

Funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. at Eastview Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Belton City Cemetery. She will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday prior to the service.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Sosebee Mortuary South Chapel.

The family will be at 400 Willingham Road, Belton.

CORY MATHIS

Cory Edward Mathis, 17, of Belton, son of Michael Edward and Carolyn Cagle Mathis, died Monday, November 3, 2014.

Born in Greenville, He was a junior at Palmetto High School and a member of The Carpenter’s House Church.

In addition to his parents, survivors include sister, Alicia Mathis of Simpsonville; grandparents, Joyce and Aaron Long of Conyers, GA, Betty Mathis of Belton.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6, at The Carpenter’s House Church, Powdersville.

The service will follow at 2:00. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
