Area parades and events include:

Piedmont Christmas Parade

The Piedmont Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Bonnes Amies Club, will be Saturday, December 13th at 11 a.m. Delbert and Rachelle Hart will be Grand Marshals of the Piedmont Christmas Parade. The Piedmont Christmas Parade, theme this year is, “A Holly, Jolly Christmas”. The entry fee for the Piedmont Parade is $15.00 and forms are available at the Piedmont Fire Department. Christmas Park/Deck the Halls 

The Williamston Christmas Park and Deck the Halls in the Municipal Center (Town Hall) are in full swing for the holiday season.

Broken Spokes Wagon Service from Sandy Springs will be providing horse drawn carriage rides from Town Hall through the Christmas Park on weekends and during the weeks closer to Christmas from 5:30 pm to 9 pm and Sunday afternoons tentatively from 4 to 9pm.

Scouts will be serving hot chocolate this Saturday evening.

Santa will be in the Scout Hut from 6-9pm on Thursday-Sunday Dec 4-7; and Thursday thru Tuesday Dec 11-Dec 23. Professional photos will be available at a price.

Santa Express to make area stops Dec. 13

The “Santa Express” sponsored by the Greenville & Western Railway Company, LLC (GRLW) will make an appearance in the area on Dec. 13. It will be the eighth year for the popular event.

Children can board Santa’s caboose, visit Old Saint Nick and receive a treat. A drawing will be held for special gifts at each of the five stops.

The Santa Express train will begin the day in Honea Path at Hamby Road at 9 am – 10:15. It will then travel to O’Neal Street in Belton from 10:45 am – 12:15 pm and arrive at Cheddar Road in the Cheddar Community from 1:30 pm – 2:45 pm. The train will arrive in Williamston at Williams Street at 3:15 p.m. until 4:15 pm and then on to Lyman Street in Pelzer (at the depot) from 4:45 pm – 6:15 pm.

Williamston Christmas Parade

The Williamston Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, December 13 at 3 p.m.. Theme for the parade will be “Keep Christ in Christmas.” Parade Chairman Walter Smith, Sr. is organizing the event. Smith said there is no fee to enter the annual parade, but encourages entrants to bring plenty of candy. The parade will begin at the traffic light at Hamilton St. and Greenville Dr. and will end at Calvary Baptist Church. Registration forms are available at the Williamston Municipal Center or participants can call Town Hall at 847-7473 and give a name and type of entry. A registration form must be filled out for an entry to be judged, Smith said. Registration deadline for judging is Thursday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m.

Palmetto Reindeer Run Dec. 13

The Palmetto High Mustang Soccer Teams will hold a 5K Reindeer Run on Saturday, December 13th, beginning at 8 am.

Participants in the Costume Contest can dress as their favorite Christmas character or show their best Reindeer outfit. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes!

The course begins and ends above the new Palmetto High School track located at 804 North Hamilton Street in Williamston.

Registration begins at 7 am race day.

5K Awards will include Overall male and female winners

Awards will be announced 15 minutes after the end of the race at the registration table.

Entry Fees for Runners:

Pre-registration- $20 (single person) Day of Race – $25 per person

Registration: Must be received by December 5, 2014.

Mail entry forms to Palmetto High School,c/o Joanna Watkins, 804 North Hamilton St, Williamston, SC, 29697 or complete a form on race day beginning at 7 am. No refunds as race will proceed rain or shine!

A t-shirt is included for all participants who pre-register. T-shirts are not guaranteed for day of race registrations.

Cemetery Candlelight Service Dec. 11

The Williamston Cemetery Committee will observe its annual Memorial Candlelight Service at the Williamston Cemetery on Thursday, December 11 at 5 pm.

An invocation will be offered by Mr. Dale Harper and special music will be provided for the evening.

Along with the mayor and town council, the public is invited and encouraged to attend and participate in the service.

In the event of inclement weather, an alternate date will be announced.
