Williamston man charged with DUI in pedestrian fatality

A Williamston man is facing charges after the vehicle he was driving struck a pedestrian on Anderson Drive in Williamston and then left the scene.

Jon Ross Daughenbaugh, 30, of 113 Tyson St., Williamston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after an investigation by the SCHP, Williamston police department and SCHP MAIT team early Friday morning.

According to reports, Daughenbaugh was driving a Ford F-250 on Anderson Drive when he struck Jackie Lee Blanding, 49, 28 Railroad St., Anderson just before 2 a.m. on Dec. 5. Daughenbaugh left the scene.

Blanding’s body was struck by a second vehicle.

According to reports, Williamston police officer C. Samuel was dispatched to the scene at 2 a.m. and found a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Joshua Tankersley in the northbound lane of the road with the victim lying motionless underneath.

The SC Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate. Williamston Fire Department and EMS also responded.

During the investigation, an off duty Williamston police officer received a text stating she had received a phone call and text message from Jon Daughenbaugh advising her that he thought he hit a person. He also stated he had been drinking, however had left the scene and returned to his residence.

Lance Cpl. Gary Miller of the SC Highway Patrol said the victim was walking east along Anderson Drive (Hwy. 20 Connector) when he was struck.

Blanding was declared dead at the scene according to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore.

Anderson Drive was closed from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. while officials worked the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
