The number one college defensive recruit, D. J. Jones, will announce his intentions to sign with a major university this Wednesday, Dec. 17. The announcement and signing will take place at 12 noon at Total Fitness gym in Powdersville. Jones, a 6’2”, 310 lb. Defensive Tackle played highschool football with the Wren Hurricanes and was a Shrine Bowl player. In Junior College at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Miss., Jones had 49 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, and a forced fumble in 2013. As a sophomore for the Lions this season, he had 22 solo tackles, 7 assists, averaged 2.4 tackles per game and had 4 sacks for 18 yards.
Jones has had interest shown from a number of colleges including Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida State, Ole Miss, Southern Cal, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Arkansas, South Carolina, LSU, and others. Sources say he is considering committing with Florida State, Ole Miss or Alabama as his top three.
