WILLIE AIKEN

WILLIAMSTON – Willie Simpson Aiken, 90, widower of Nell Jennings Aiken, died Sunday, December 14, 2014 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Will Aiken, Jr. and Mary Lou Simpson Aiken.  He was owner/operator of Willie S. Aiken Home Builders, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Williamston Masonic Lodge # 24.  He was also an Army WWII veteran.

Surviving are a son, Larry B. Aiken of Powdersville; daughters, Dianne Aiken Blackstone, Patricia Aiken McDavid, Deborah Aiken Melton, Kathy Aiken King, Donna Aiken Hawkins, all of Williamston; sister, Frances James of Easley; fourteen grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 12:00 – 1: 30 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service followed at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

THOMAS HAROLD DAVIS

Thomas Harold Davis, 76, widower of Jewell Marie Smith, died Monday, December 8, 2014.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late James Lauren and Nellie Blanche Fuller.

He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service and a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Leigh D. Seawright of Powdersville; son, Michael Davis of Greenville; two grandsons; a great-grandson; brother, Frank R. Davis of Dublin, GA; sister, Martha Davis of Greenville.

Funeral service was held Sunday, December 14 in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society of Greenville, 113 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605.

JAMES WALTER LEE

The life and legacy of Mr. James Walter Lee was celebrated on Tuesday, December 16 at Unity Mortuary of Anderson. Burial was held in the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery. He was a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his sister, Sallie Robinson of Williamston.

He was the last surviving son of the late Richard Furman and Lillan Lee.

JAN WATT

Jan Duke Watt, 69, of Waterloo, wife of Donald A. Watt, died Monday, December 15, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Irene Duke.  She was a member of First Baptist Church Simpsonville and attended Cedarwood Community Church in Waterloo.

Surviving in addition to her husband are son, Donald Eric Watt of Winston Salem, NC; daughter, Christy Watt Johnston of Simpsonville; three grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Duke of Piedmont and Gene Duke of Williamston.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 2:00 Friday at First Baptist Church Simpsonville.

The funeral service will follow at 2:00 with burial in the Simpsonville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to McCall Hospice House, 1836 West Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680.

CHARLIE DAVENPORT

WILLIAMSTON – Charlie Dendy Davenport, 86, died Sunday, December 12, 2014.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Albert Lander and Maggie Lee West Davenport. He was retired from Future Products Tool Corporation and served in the Coast Guard.

Surviving are daughter, Amy Lynn Davenport; sister, Bobbie Sue Copeland; niece, Paula Copeland Longest; nephew, Mike Copeland; special friends, Peggy Cleveland and Dennis Ellis.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

RUFUS ‘BUDDY’ PATTERSON

Rufus Daniel “Buddy” Patterson, 75, died December 14, 2014 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Clyde Elmer Patterson and the late Grace Inez Powell Patterson.

He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas.

He was a former member of Osborne Avenue Church of God.

He is survived by three sons, Marshall Danny Patterson of Anderson, Tommy Lee Patterson of Starr, and Timothy Shane Patterson of Pendleton; brother, David Patterson of Anderson; two sisters, Martha Rollison of Taylors, and Sarah McCollum of Powdersville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

JANIE LEE MIMS

Janie Lee Mims, 69, of Pelzer, died Monday, December 8, 2014.

She was born in Anderson County, daughter of the late John Ed. Blanding and Lela Clark Blanding.

Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Downs; sisters, Gennie Blanding, Margaret Blanding, Ann Blanding, and Marjorie Blanding; brothers, Lonnell Blanding, Joe Blanding, Jessie Blanding, Willie Charles Blanding, and Bobby Ray Blanding;  two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 13 at New Prospect Baptist Church, Williamston. Burial followed in the Belton City Cemetery.

HILDA VAUGHT CONNELLY

Hilda Vaught Connelly, 84, wife of Cecil Earl Connelly, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014.

Born in Marion County, she was the daughter of the late Lucille Best and Talmadge Vaught.

Surviving are a daughter, Debbie Fowler of Williamston; son, David Connelly of Pelzer; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Jackie Hinton of Fountain Inn, and Connie Reed of Greenville.

Funeral service was held Saturday, December 13 in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Entombment followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

ANNIE MAE RAY

Annie Mae Tollison Ray, 81,of Pelzer, died Friday, December 12, 2014.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Bradley Tollison and Nettie Davis Tollison. She retired from PPG Industries in Lexington, NC and was a member of South Greenville Baptist Church, Piedmont.

Survivors include sons, Dennis Ray of Riverside, California and Tim Ray of Pelzer; sister, Bobbie Foster of Belton; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Wednesday at Beaverdam Baptist Church, Williamston.

DAVID HAMILTON

Harold David Hamilton, 91, of Pelzer, died December 12, 2014.

Born in Barrow County, GA, to the late Robert C. and Ila Mae Collins Hamilton he was the last member of his immediate family. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Floride Alexander Hamilton; sons, David and Kent Hamilton; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer on Tuesday, December 16. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

KENNETH WELBORN

Kenneth Farrell Welborn, 85, of West Pelzer, husband of Betty Houston Welborn, died Sunday, December 14, 2014.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William and Lily George Welborn. He was a United States Army Korean War veteran and also retired from Kendall Mills. He was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Karen Gallas of Chicago, IL and Lynn Lawless of Williamston; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, December 16 at West Pelzer Baptist Church. Burial was held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BOB L. NEWSOME

Bob Lester Newsome, 65, of Williamston, died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at his home.

He was the husband of Pamela Blakely Newsome and the son of the late Forrest Byrd Newsome, Jr. and Jeanette Siegel Newsome. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Pickens.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Sherry Stone of Piedmont; one son, Jeff Newsome of Williamston; two sisters, Cynthia West and Mary Miller, both of Easley; one brother, Ted Newsome of Easley; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service was held Monday, December 15 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Interment followed at Graceland West Memorial Gardens.
