Gail Rodrigues, a special education teacher at Woodmont Middle School, recently received the District 4 Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award. The award recognizes exceptional teachers for their outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students. Mrs. Rodrigues will now advance to the state-level competition. Andrea Fowler, parent of a former student, submitted the nomination for Rodrigues. “Mrs. Rodrigues is always there to encourage the students. She is a ‘one-of-a-kind’ teacher. She continues to check on her students even after they leave class for the year,” she said.
