The Anderson County Public Works Department has recently been awarded a prestigious American Public Works Association (APWA) Re-Accreditation.

The APWA Accreditation program recognizes public works agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the public works industry, as contained in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual. Anderson County Public Works received its original APWA Accreditation December 2, 2010, and this is the agency’s first Re-Accreditation.

Re-Accreditation indicates the Anderson County Public Works has met all applicable Accreditation documentation and practices over time. “The awarding of the APWA Re-Accreditation shows we have dedicated ourselves to concepts of improvement and in-depth self-assessment of our policies, procedures and practices. The heroes of this prestigious APWA award are the Public Works staff who provide services and programs that contribute to making Anderson County a great community,” said Deputy County Administrator, Holt Hopkins.

The departments that provide public works services in Anderson County include the Airport, Building & Codes, Building & Grounds, Development Standards, Fleet Services, Planning & Community Development, Parks, Recreation & Tourism, Public Works Administration, Roads & Bridges, Solid Waste, Stormwater, and Wastewater.

For the Anderson County’s Re-Accreditation review, a team of public works professionals from Topeka, KS, Covington, GA and Kansas City, MO, completed a thorough evaluation of operations during their December, 2014 site visit. “It’s great to have the County’s public works departments reach full compliance with their practices. I commend their commitment to continuous review of their policies and procedures to qualify,” said APWA Director of Accreditation Ann Daniels.

The Anderson County agency was the 64th agency in North America to receive Accreditation and was joined by South Carolina fellow agencies from Charleston and Georgetown Counties.
