Davis named to SCDOT Commission

The Legislative Delegation of the 3rd Congressional District has named Ben H. Davis Jr. to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Commission.

Davis, of Greenwood, was elected Commissioner during a Legislative Delegation meeting Thursday, Feb. 12.. South Carolina Senator William Hamilton “Billy” O’Dell, the Senior Senator of the 3rd Congressional District, called the meeting that included South Carolina Senator Thomas C. Alexander and South Carolina Representative Shannon R. Riley.

Davis retired as President/CEO of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in September 2014. He has degrees from Furman University, Christian Bible College and North Greenville University. After graduating from college, he owned and operated WFIS Radio in Fountain Inn and WCKM Radio in Winnsboro; and the Tribune-Times newspaper.

Davis was a member of the Fountain Inn City Council for three years and was Mayor of Fountain Inn for 12 years; he was President of the Greenville County Mayors Association and served on the board of the SC Municipal Association. He received the Order of the Palmetto in August 2014.

He is married to Polly Davis, retired Director of Volunteer Services at Connie Maxwell; they have two married children and two grandsons.
