GERRY ALBERSON

Geraldeane “Gerry” Jones Alberson, 92, of Anderson, widow of A.T. Alberson, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015.

Born in Mullins, Texas, she was a daughter of the late John Luther and Bertha Henderson Jones. She retired from Cryovac and was a member of Belton Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She is survived by sons, Ronnie Wayne Alberson of Piedmont and Darrell Tillman Alberson of Pelzer; daughter, Sharron Kay Welch of Pelzer; sisters, Mary Sue Cole of West Pelzer and Zonell Engles of California; brother, Rev. Sanford Jones of Irmo; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Friday, February 20 in the chapel at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

EVELYN ELROD TRIPP

Evelyn Elrod Tripp, 99, of Powdersville, widow of John William Tripp, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late L.M. and Mary Davies Elrod.

She was a homemaker and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Dian Ford and Judy  Walls, both of Powdersville; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 20 at  Bethesda United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church Building Fund, 516 Piedmont Rd., Piedmont, SC 29673.

BOBBY CAPPS

Bobby “Bullet” Joe Capps, 69, of Piedmont, husband of Sally Holdbrooks Capps, died Thursday, February 19, 2015.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late William Iler and Hortense Sherman Capps.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Annette Davis of Piedmont; son Jeremy Holdbrooks of Piedmont; brothers, Kent Capps of Williamston, Ronnie Capps of Pelzer and Billy Capps of Pelzer; sisters, Sylvia Browning of Pelzer, Dot Harrison of Pelzer and Jackie Roberts of Antreville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The service was held on Saturday, February 21 in Greenville Memorial Garden Mausoleum Chapel.

CHARLES FLEMING

WILLIAMSTON – Charles Herbert Fleming, 86, beloved husband of Martha Bryant Fleming, died Thursday, February 19, 2015.

He was the son of the late Cleo and Bertha Porter Fleming. He retired from A.T.S. Southeast, Inc. and attended Pelzer First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Charles Cleo Fleming of Danville, VA and Matthew Turner of Pelzer; daughters, Leslie Turner Webb of Williamston, Julie Turner James of Iva and Lisa Blesi Kurvers of New Hope, MN; sisters, Marion Cooper of Danville, VA and Emily Larkins of High Point, NC; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and his beloved Maltese, Lucky.

Visitation was from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Sunday, February 22 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Entombment followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

MARTHA GLENN

PIEDMONT – Martha Ann Glenn, 80, passed away Friday, February 20, 2015.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late William W. and Pearl Lister Glenn.  Martha graduated from Furman University and Greenville Technical College where she obtained her RN degree.  She was a retired nurse from the office of Dr. James L. Banks.

Martha was a member of Piedmont First Baptist Church where she served as a Deacon, taught Children’s Sunday School, sang in the Adult Choir and served as a Women on Missions Leader.  She was also a member of the Piedmont Mother’s Club and the Piedmont Improvement Association.

Survivors include sister, Helen Glenn Weeks of Piedmont; nephews, William Weeks (Lisa), James Weeks (Rene), Larry Weeks (Nanci); great nieces and nephews, Abbie R. Weymouth (Steve), William J. “BJ” (Mai) Weeks, Baylie Weeks, Katie-Laken Weeks, Kylie Weeks.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Martha’s caregiver, Joyce Donahue.

She was predeceased by a brother.

Visitation was held from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Piedmont First Baptist Church.

The funeral service followed at 3:00 p.m. at the church.  Burial was held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Piedmont.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piedmont First Baptist Church Building Fund or Missions Offerings, 8 First Baptist Church Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.

BEATRICE SULLIVAN

PIEDMONT – Beatrice Thurston Sullivan, 94, widow of Cecil Edward Sullivan, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late William Walter and Lucy McClain Thurston.  She was retired from J.P. Stevens and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Mary Ann Hamby of Piedmont; sons, Larry Thurston of Piedmont, Gary Sullivan of Piedmont, Allen Sullivan of Townville; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Jackie Sue McDowell.

Visitation was held from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Monday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service followed at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Burial was held at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

COREY LEE CLEM

Cory Lee Clem, 33 of Williamston, passed away on February 17th 2015. Cory was a lifelong resident of the Williamston community. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.

Surviving are his parents, Ricky and Darlene (Blanton) of Williamston, his brother John and wife Mary (Segers) of Easley, one nephew Ayden of Easley, Fiancée Kim Sims, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A private ceremony for the immediate family will be held at a later date.

MARGARET POLMATIER

Margaret Elizabeth Pierce Polmatier, 68, of Anderson, died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur Pierce and the late Elizabeth Campbell Pierce.

She retired from working in both dentist and optometrist offices.

Surviving are her husband, Paul S. Polmatier; children, Sherri Watts of Enfield, CT, and Ann M. Jacobs of East Hartford, CT; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Pierce and Max Rogers, both of Pelzer, and Billie Sims of Anderson.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 24 in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

CATHERINE ROWLAND SMITH

Catherine Rowland Smith, 79, of Pelzer, wife of the late Leland Smith, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015 at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center, Bishopville.

A daughter of the late Newton and Iloan Rowland, she was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Williamston.

Surviving are son, Phil Fletcher of North Myrtle Beach; daughter, Sharon Fletcher of Lugoff; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 26 from 1 – 1:45 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Remembrance Chapel, Greenville. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m.

JAMES HAROLD TURNER, SR.

James Harold Turner, Sr., 79, of Easley, widower of Edna Howard Turner, passed Friday, February 20, 2015.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late John D. and Ella Taylor Turner.

James was a member of Pickens Church of God for over 20 years and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Moore and Katrina Owens; two sons, Jamie and Jimmy Turner (Hope); nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Harold McClain; a sister, Diane Young; and three brothers, Calvin, J.B. and Gerald Turner.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy McClain; two sons-in-law, Ronnie Owens, and Mark Moore; three sisters, Nancy Hamby, Ruth Holder, and Louise Durham; and a brother, Charles Turner.

The visitation was held Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 6p.m. until 8p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.  The funeral service followed Wednesday, February 25, 2015  at 1:30 p.m. in the Northwest chapel.  Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.

ANNE RIDGE

F.orence Anne Smith Ridge, 76, wife of Grover Edwin Ridge, of Honea Path, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Greenwood County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Margaurite Golden Smith. She was a member of Honea Path First Baptist Church and was retired from Milliken.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Lisa Butler of Piedmont, Kim Good of Taylors; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends immediately after the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate.
