Meals on Wheels-Anderson is gearing up for its annual March for Meals campaign to bring awareness and action to the program that fights to end senior hunger.
The month-long event held every March (hence the name March for Meals) is a nationwide initiative of the Meals on Wheels Association of America. Locally, Meals on Wheels-Anderson has planned several events for the month.
The organization is inviting women’s organizations (civic clubs, Mom’s groups, church groups, business organizations, etc.) to join in a spin-off event, Heels for Meals campaign. Women in Anderson are asked to volunteer for a food delivery route or to assist on the food packing line to show a united “girl power” in our community. Members of the Junior League of Anderson County and women from Bank of America joined in this last year. High heels are optional.
Additionally, Mayors and city/county leaders are invited to join in the Mayors for Meals day on March 26. Meals on Wheels is asking city and county leaders to volunteer to drive a delivery route or assist on the food packing line.
Ministers for Meals is also being promoted inviting ministers and leaders in churches to participate by volunteering to drive a food delivery route or assist in packing.
During March, Meals on Wheels also holds its semi-annual spaghetti fundraiser. On March 26, spaghetti meals including spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and tea are available at lunch and dinner hours for dining in, take out or delivery (for 10 or more). Tickets are available at $8 for adults; $5 for children (under 12).
Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.; dinner is served from 5 -7:30 p.m. Take out or dine in available. Delivery is available for orders of 10 or more at lunch.
“We are excited about our March for Meals campaign. This is a great opportunity to raise awareness about our program, recruit new volunteers and bring the senior population and their ever-growing needs to the forefront of the community,” said Laurie Ashley, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels-Anderson.
