PAUL MYERS

Paul Owen Myers, 87, of Simpsonville, widower of Elizabeth Betsill Myers, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

Born in Albany, GA, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee and Willie Virginia Willis Myers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from Civil Service Fort McPherson, GA. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He is survived by son, Lewis Myers of Simpsonville; daughter, Laura Brown of Ellijay, GA; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Funeral service was held Saturday, March 14 at Calvary Baptist Church, Williamston.

NORMA ROSS

Norma Louise Fennell Ross, 85, Pelzer, widow of James William Ross, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Agnes Abercrombie Fennell.  She retired form Canteen of Dixie.  She was a member of Pelzer United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sister, Phedonia Rainey; and step-sons, Kenny and “Twitty”.

A graveside service was held Saturday at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

‘BOBBY’ FLANAGAN

WILLIAMSTON – Robert Leigh “Bobby” Flanagan, 53, husband of Patricia Darlene Campbell Flanagan, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at his home.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of Irene Vassalo Crain of Gray Court and the late Glen Flanagan.  He was formerly employed with James E. Jones Grading.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are son, BradLee Campbell of Pelzer; daughters, Naticia Flanagan of Piedmont, BobbiLea White of Westminster; sisters, Debbie Flanagan of Philadelphia, PA, Annette Harris of Anderson, Kathy Brooks of Gray Court; brother, Glenn “Butch” Flanagan of Anderson; four grandchildren, Robby, Harley, D.D. and Bud.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

WENDEL TROTTER

PELZER – Wendel Thurman Trotter, 71, husband of 52 years to Sue Hawthorne Trotter, died Thursday, March 12, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late James William and Frances Bishop Trotter. He retired from Capsco and was a member of Mt. Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Wendel Trotter (April) of Pelzer; brother, Robert Trotter; grandchild, Kaitlyn Isabella Trotter.

He was predeceased by brothers, James and Jerry Trotter.

Visitation was from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Saturday, March 14 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service followed at 3:30 pm at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

RUSS MEARES

John “Russ” Russell Meares, 78, of Pelzer, widower of Emily Marie Land Meares, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late James Vardry and Sara Traynham Meares. He was a veteran with the U.S. Army and retired from Kendall Company.

He is survived by son, Paul Meares of Williamston; and one grandchild.

A graveside service was held Saturday, March 14 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

SARA ABBOTT

Sarah Frances Tinsley Abbott, 91, of Piedmont, widow of Claude Abbott, died Saturday, March 14, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of Samuel Dekeeh and Olivia Pollard Tinsley. She retired from J.P. Stevens and attended Mauldin Church of God.

She is survived by son, Larry Abbott; daughter, Lynn Fisher, both of Piedmont; sisters; Marie Crawford of Piedmont, Edna Belue of Fountain Inn; brother, Samuel “Bud” Tinsley of Piedmont; and two grandsons.

Visitation was held Tuesday, March 17 at Gray Mortuary.

STACY GILES

Stacy Ann Chapman Giles, 96, of Pelzer, widow of Paul Belowe Giles, died Saturday, March 14, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Annie Prudence Cooley Chapman. She retired from Model Coats.

She is survived by daughters, Barbara King of Gray Court, Brenda Hunter of Sylvester, Georgia, Betty Owens of Pelzer, Bereatha Gail Blackwell of Columbia; sons, Barry Giles of Sanford, NC, Boyd Giles of Pelzer; sister, Catherine Taylor of Williamston, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 17, at Gray Mortuary. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

RICKY GALLOWAY

PIEDMONT—Ricky A. Galloway, 60, was called to his eternal home Thursday, March 12, 2015.

He was born in Greenville County on August 31, 1954, to Bill LeRoy Galloway and the late Bobbie Avanelle Galloway.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Julie Moore Galloway along with his two sons, Bill Galloway (Charlotte), Justin Galloway (Krissi); four grandchildren, Caitlin Smith (Matt), Cameron Galloway, Riley Galloway and Rhett Galloway; two brothers, Roger Galloway and Johnny Galloway.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Bobby Galloway (Ann) and Bryan Galloway.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 21, at Piedmont United Methodist Church. Please join us at 4:00 p.m. as we celebrate Ricky’s life. Visitation begins at 3:00 p.m.

INEZ SIMMONS

BELTON—Bernice Inez Twitty Simmons, 88, loving and devoted wife of Curtis Russell Simmons for 70 years, died Friday, March 13, 2015.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late John Burnie and Clara Katherine Oldham Twitty. She was employed with McCall’s Tax Service and Swift and Company. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, Mrs. Simmons taught three-year-old Sunday school and five-year-old kindergarten. She was known by her pleasant and encouraging smile and she loved being a grandmother to her six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Scarlet Chasteen (Rev. Don), and Pat Freeman, both of Boiling Springs; grandchildren, Allyson (Kevin) Elliott, Jeremy (Liz) Chasteen, Jon (Leigh) Chasteen, Amy Chasteen, Russell (Katie) Freeman and Joel (Austin) Freeman.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Marsha Lynn Simmons; three brothers and one sister.

Visitation was Monday, March 16, from 12:30 – 1:45 at Calvary Baptist Church, Williamston, SC. The funeral service followed at 2:00. Burial was at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

FLOYD GALLOWAY

Floyd Galloway, 89, of Pelzer, died March 11, 2015 at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Constance E. Brown Galloway; daughters, Gail Galloway, Faye Culpepper and Wendy Merritt;  son, Albert Galloway; sisters, Clara Galloway Cornelius and Janie Galloway Rice; brothers, Josephus, John, and Robert Galloway; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Ethel E. Galloway.

Funeral service was held March 16 at Salem MIssionary Baptist Church in Anderson.

Interment followed at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

BARBARA SMITH

Barbara Ann Sherman Smith, 68, wife of Randal Jerome Smith, died Friday, March 13, 2015.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Maxine Witt Riddle. She retired from Michelin Tire Corporation and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Paula Bowen Allen, Jennifer Smith Henson; son, Mark Bowen; brother, James Richard Sherman; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, March 16 at Trinity Baptist Church. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

BRENDA STRICKLAND

Brenda Skelton Strickland, 65, of Anderson, wife of Larry Hoyt Strickland, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Roy Francis Skelton and Aldie Lowie Skelton.

She was co-owner of A & B Salon and was a member of Homeland Park Church of God.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Timothy L. Strickland of Anderson; brothers, Francis Edrew Skelton of Williamston, Franklin D. Skelton and Jerry Glenn Skelton, both of Anderson; sister, Etrulia Watt of Iva, Mary Lyon of Piedmont and Kathryn Feltman of Anderson.

Funeral service was held Monday, March 16 in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

DOROTHY ‘DOTTIE’ FIELDS

Dorothy “Dottie” Day Fields, 73, of Williamston, widow of Edward Gay Fields, died Friday, March 13, 2015.

Born in Whitesburg, KY, she was a daughter of the late Loren C. and Mary Hampton Day.  She retired from Anderson College and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Rita Ison of Piedmont, Lorna Gillette of Rock Falls, IL, Holly Yerkes of Anderson; son, Rocky Fields of New Market, TN; sisters, Pansy Whitaker, Irene Banks, Nadine Miller; brother, Tommy Day; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

RUTH COKER

Ruth Pearson Coker, 99, of Pelzer, widow of Burrell Coker, died Sunday, March 15, 2015.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late J.L. and Annie Austin Pearson. She was a homemaker and a member of Washington Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons, Kenneth Coker of Jackson, MS, Maurice Coker of Easley; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral service was held Wednesday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

SHELBY GLASBY

July 14, 1938 – March 12, 2015

WILLIAMSTON-Shelby Jean Glasby, 76, of Williamston, departed this life March 12, 2015.

Born in Anderson County she was a daughter of the late Joe Aaron Glasby Sr. and Olivia Love Smith Glasby. She was of the Wesleyan Faith.

She is survived by a daughter, Joette McDougald (James) of Camden; sister, Jo Ann Glasby Thomason of Pelzer; two grandchildren, Caela and Ryan McDougald of Camden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; one brother Joe Aaron (Pee Wee) Glasby Jr.; and brother-in-law, James (Shirt) Thomason. Shelby loved her family and friends and always considered Williamston home.

MISTY RICHARDSON

Misty Rose Richardson, 34, of Piedmont, died Saturday, March 14, 2015.

She is survived by her husband, Shane Richardson; two sons, Jacob Richardson and Bryce Owens; parents, Ronald DeSoto and Michele Strong; three brothers, Jeremy DeSoto, Ronald Spencer, and Marc Strong; and three sisters, Stephanie Spencer, Stacy Mullins, and Tanis Calhoun.

The family received friends March 18 at the Palmetto Mortuary, Greenville.

PFC JOHN BOWERS

PFC John Russell Bowers, 18, of Piedmont, son of the late Buster and Ollie Mae Massey Bowers of Piedmont, died May 3, 1951 in Pyokdong, North Korea.

He was a U.S. Army solider, killed in action in 1951. Prior to volunteering for the U.S. Army, he worked at Dunean Mill and played football for West Gantt High School.

Survivors are brother, Jerry Ross Bowers of Greenville; sisters, Mary Collins Clardy of Easley, Jerrell Dean Campbell and Christine Steinbrueck, both of Pelzer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer in the funeral home chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

MADGE BROWN

Madge Lorrene Thackston Brown, 84, of Piedmont, widow of Leon Russell Brown, died on Monday, March 16, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Willie S. and Annie Abigail Thackston. She retired from Fiber Industries and was formerly employed with Stone Manufacturing. She was a member of Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Connie E. Brown of the home; son, Leon R. Brown of Belton; brother, Joe Thackston of Lilburn, GA; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm Thursday, March 19 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 12:30 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
