Traffic stop results in vehicle chase, foot chase in Pelzer

West Pelzer Police Department investigated an incident in which a West Pelzer resident is facing multiple charges after leaving a traffic stop causing a car chase and foot chase in Pelzer. Officers also investigated shoplifting, gas drive offs and other incidents.

Apr. 1 – James Anthony Craine, 35/40, 1A Evans St., West Pelzer was arrested and will be facing numerous charges after a gold Mazda SUV was observed operating on Hwy. 8 after dark without headlights on.

According to reports the vehicle initially stopped and Craine answered any question by officer with “I respect the police.” When the officer backed off to request assistance, the SUV quickly accelerated and pulled away. After a chase on Hwy. 8 to Pelzer, Murray St.,Lyman St., Adger Street the vehicle stopped and Craine fled on foot. He was apprehended attempting to scale a fence.

Craine was charged with DUI, malicious injury to municipal property, failure to stop on command for blue light, resisting arrest, open container and possession of drug paraphernalia. A passenger in the vehicle, Justin William Burns, 23, 22 Burts Street, Pelzer, was charged with public intoxication. He attempted to leave during the footchase but was detained by several men from the neighborhood. A bottle of watermelon vidka was found under the front passenger seat along with several items of costume jewelry. C. Brewer investigated.

Apr. 12 – Sav-Way, Hwy. 8 reported a gas drive off in which an unknown individual in a green two door vehicle left without paying for $30.19 in gas. C. Brewer investigated.

Apr. 12 – CVS Pharmacy, 1 Main St., West Pelzer reported a shoplifting incident in which a white male entered the store and took unknown items The suspect left the store with a reusable shopping bag without paying for it and left in a burgundy 2001 Chevrolet. C. Brewer investigated.

Apr. 11 – Shannon Wright, 36, 28 Park St., West Pelzer reported his brother, Dana Wright drove through his yard leaving tire tracks. Dana Wright denied he was at his brother’s home and stated he did not drive in the yard. Dana Wright was placed on trespass notice for 28 Park St. C. Brewer investigated.

Apr. 11 – Sav-Way, 80 Main St., West Pelzer reported a gas drive off in which a white female pumped gas valued at $19.88 into a lime green hatchback vehicle and left without paying. J. W. Sparks investigated.

Apr. 10 – Aaron D. Burriss, 39, 31 McCaughrin Street, Pelzer was arrested for outstanding warrant with Anderson County after a red Honda motorcycle with a moped tag was observed going 38 mph in a 35 mph zone on Hwy. 8. (Vehicles with a moped tag cannot legally go more than 30 mph) He was issued a courtesy summons for no proof of insurance on the vehicle. C. Brewer investigated.

Apr. 7 – Ryan B. Holbrooks, 21, 1270 Anderson St., Easley was arrested and issued a citation for allowing operation of an uninsured vehicle after a Chevrolet was observed on Main. Street with no vehicle license plate. Holbrooks was a passenger in the vehicle which he owned andallowed his sister to operate with no insurance. C. Brewer investigated.

Apr. 7 – Angela Lynn Simmons, 36, 250 Willimon Dr., Piedmont was arrested for public intoxication and driving under suspension after being observed sitting unconcious behind the steering wheel of a black Saturn at 7-11, 2 Main St., West Pelzer. She was transported by EMS to AnMed where she was later issued a courtesy summons for the offenses. J. W. Sparks investigated.

Apr. 6 – Ashley Price (Cerecedo), 31, 219 Johnson St,. Piedmont was arrested for improper seatbelt, operating uninsured vehicle, improper vehicle license (tag) and no driver’s license after a black Honda Accord was observed on Hwy. 20. According to reports, of three adults and two children in the vehicle, only one child was properly using a seat belt. Passengers Jennifer Rose and Tommy Snead were issued citations for seat belt violation. C. Brewer investigated.

On April 7, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office contacted West Pelzer PD about Ashley Cerecedo who they had pulled over and that she had given false information to WPPD. Additional citations for habitual offender, driving under suspension more than 1st and providing false information to an officer were issued for her. A hold was placed on her with Greenville County for the additional charges. J. Sanders investigated.

Apr. 3 – Thomas Jonathan Evans, 32, 301 Boiter Rd, Williamston was arrested for prowling after being observed at the corner of Marguerite and Burkett St cutting down bamboo. He was issued a courtesy summons. C. Brewer investigated.

Apr. 1 – Randall Dean Bruce, 44, 48 Dendy St., Pelzer was arrested for public intoxication after being observed unsteady and walking on Dendy St. According to reports he was arrested after he became loud and boisterous and would not heed warnings to sit quietly. C. Brewer investigated.
