“FRANKIE” GARRETT

PIEDMONT—Rodger Franklin “Frankie” Garrett, 78, widower of Sara Annette Copeland Garrett, died Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Born in Canton, NC, he was a son of the late Walter Robert and Emma Lou Tinsley Garrett. A US Air Force veteran, he was the owner of Garrett and Wray Heating and Air and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Terry Garrett (Jackie) of Greenwood, Eric Garrett of Tryon, NC; daughter, Lesley Garrett Collins of Greenville; sister, Mary Ann Eubanks of TX; brothers, Harold Steele Garrett of Coweta, OK, Donnie Garrett of Piedmont; special friend, Marie Creamer of Pelzer; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Bobby Jean Williams, Billy Joe Garrett, Robert Garrett, and Bryan V. Garrett.

Visitation was Monday, June 22, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral was Tuesday, June 23, at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

SHELBY LOOPER GARRISON

Shelby Looper Garrison, 66, of Piedmont, widow of Jimmy Leroy Garrison, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015.

She retired from Union Carbide and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Aleita G. Godson; brother, Tommy Looper; sister, Jackie Owens; six step-brothers; step-mother, Margaret Looper; and two grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Saturday at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

MILTON CAPPS

PELZER—James Milton Capps, 72, died Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late John Washington “J.W.”, Jr. and Hettie Roper Capps. A U.S. Navy, Vietnam veteran, he was retired from V.F. Jeanswear and a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include; sister, Doris Barber of Piedmont; brother, Fred Capps (Dale) of Piedmont; nieces, Valerie Capps (Derrick), Lindsey Hammond (Ron); nephew, Greg Ozmint (Brenda); eight great-nieces and nephews; “adopted” son, Tony Harris of Pelzer; “adopted” daughter, Amanda Greene of Piedmont. He was predeceased by niece, Crystal Johnson.

Visitation was Tuesday, June 23, from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial was held at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

CHARLIE C. GOLIGHTLY

Charlie Cleveland Golightly, 98, husband of the late Vera McDonald Golightly, died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Hosanna Health and Rehab in Piedmont.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Vernon and Edith Sentell Golightly.

He was retired from Mayfair Mills, Glenwood Plant, was a member of Glenwood Wesleyan Church, and was a US Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary G. Taylor of Powdersville; two grandchildren; one adopted grandson; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Ward of Easley and Mary Burnette of Georgia.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 23 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

“KAIE” BAKER

Emma Kate “Kaie” Bates Baker, 74, of Piedmont, died Sunday, June 21, 2015.

Born in Cosby, TN, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Peloma Valentine Bates.  She was a member of Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Amanda Meaders of Piedmont; son, Scott Baker of Greenville; brother, Truman Bates of Piedmont; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

ROBERT SHIFLETT

Robert Harold Shiflett, 87, of Anderson, died Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late William Shiflett and the late Martha Collins Shiflett.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and Korea.

He was employed at Fluor-Daniel Construction and was a member of Orville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Cason Shiflett; three daughters, Barbara Shiflett and Ann Shiflett, both of Piedmont, Wanda Rhodes of Pelzer; son, Bill Wood, Virginia Beach, VA; five brothers, John Shiflett and Philmore Shiflett, both of Anderson, Leroy Shiflett of Easley, Rockwell Shiflett of Indianapolis, IN, and David Shiflett of Pensacola, FL; and one granddaughter.

Graveside service was held Monday, June 22 at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

HILDRED SCHLOSSER

Hildred Picklesimer Schlosser, 87, wife of the late Benjamin Harrison Schlosser, died June 18, 2015.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late T.E. and Ethel Baldwin Picklesimer.

She owned and operated Windy Hill Stables.

Surviving are her three daughters, Diane Reuschle of Greer, Cheryl Foster of Piedmont, and Brenda Allen of Taylors; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 21 at The Mackey Mortuary. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

RACHEL BURNETT GARNER

Rachel Burnett Garner, 74, of Williamston, widow of Elmo Garner, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of a late Clyde and Yosvell Burnett.

She is survived by two children, Natalie Renee Garner Pepper (James) and Bo Jeremiah Garner (Christie); four grandchildren, Adam Cody Dalton, Yasmine Rachel Evans, Patrick Anderson Garner, and Alexis Hope Garner; and one great grandson, Mason Christopher Dalton.

In addition to her loving husband she is preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Burnett Johnson and A. L. Burnett; and two brothers, Bobby and Ralph Burnett.

A visitation was held Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 12:00 P.M. until 1:15 P.M. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service followed at 1:30 P.M. in the Northwest chapel. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, West.

GEORGE CHRISTOPHER CREASY

LAURENS – George Christopher Creasy, 45, of 202 B Ashley Ln. and husband of Andrea Michelle Lollis Creasy,  passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Guy Creasy, Jr. and Betty Ann Howard Creasy.  George was an electrical technician with 3M and was a member of Rabun Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:  his daughters, Chasity Creasy Sherfield and husband Dillon of Laurens and Morgan Nicole Creasy of Laurens;  brothers, Skip, Jack, Guy, Travis, and Harry; sisters, Eunice Bailey and Janice Craft.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 26, 2015, at Rabun Creek Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Clarence Adkins.

The family will be at the home and will receive friends at Rabun Creek Baptist Church from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Friday, June 26, 2015.

PAULINE GALLOWAY

Pauline Roberts Galloway, 95, wife of the late Lewis Robert Galloway, died Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Hosanna Health and Rehab in Piedmont.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late James Milton Roberts and Linnie Springfield Roberts.

She was formerly employed with Dunean Mill and was a member of Pendleton First Baptist Church in Pendleton.

Surviving are her daughter, Gail Jameson of Liberty; one grandson; and three step-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 23 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with private burial in Graceland West Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Senior Fellowship Group of Pendleton Baptist Church, 351 S. Broad Street, Pendleton, SC 29670.

BRADLEY PACE

Bradley “Brad” Steven Pace, 40, husband of Laura Gayle Tillman Pace of Belton, died Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Steven Timms and Kathy Ann Lee Pace.

He was a member of Belton Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are son, Kaleb Stevens Pace; daughters, Tabitha Hope and Alexis Page Pace, all of the home; sister, Patricia Dyanne Lusk of Pelzer.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home Chapel.

JOHN L. HICKS, JR.

John Leroy Hicks, Jr., 55, of Easley, died Monday, June 22, 2015 at his home.

Born in Bakersville, NC, he was the son of John L. Hicks of Simpsonville. He was a former textile machinery salesman and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his daughter, Amy McFerrin of Dacusville; son, Brad Hicks of Williamston; brother, Brian Hicks of Greenville; sister, Susan Whitmire of Simpsonville; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

MARY WARD

PELZER – Mary Charlene Vittoe Ward, 62, widow of John Kenneth Ward, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015.

Born in Fort Bragg, NC, she was the daughter of Marietta King Vittoe and the late Dudley Morris Vittoe, Sr. She retired from Gerber Childrenswear.

In addition to her mother of Fayetteville, NC, she is survived by sons, Gene Fields (Brandy) of Rockwall, TX and Brian Fields (Misty) of Pelzer, SC; brothers, Dudley Morris Vittoe, Jr. and Steve Vittoe, both of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Hannah Estes, Landon Wynne, Jakob Clary, Isaac Clary and Alyson Thompson.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 27 from 2:00-3:00 pm at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
