SYBIL KING

PELZER – Sybil Hester Brock King, 92, of the Ware Place Community, widow of John Leonard (J.L.) King, Jr., passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late John William and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Mulligan Brock.  She was retired from B.C. Moore’s Department Store. Mrs. King was an active member of Washington Baptist Church for over sixty years. She was a member and director of the WMU, a member of the Cornerstones Senior Citizens Group, Sunday School teacher, choir member and GA leader.

Mrs. King was a fine example of a Christian servant who always looked for opportunities to help others.  She was a loving, dedicated wife and mother.

She was predeceased by step-mother, Carrie Lee Glenn Brock; four sisters, Bertie Thompson, Ruth Creswell, Sally McCaslan and Hazel Bryson; brother, John W. Brock, Jr.

Survivors include sons, Donnie R. King (Pam) of Pelzer, Rickey D. King of Pelzer; grandson, John Wiley King; a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Washington Baptist Church.

The service followed at 4:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Stan Candler officiating.  Burial was held at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of Donnie and Pam King, Pelzer.

GLENDA “RUTHIE” MANN

Glenda Ruth “Ruthie” Griffis Mann, 66, of West Pelzer, died Thursday, June 25, 2015 at her home.

Born in Rockledge, FL, she was a daughter of the late Benny Oxford, Sr. and Delila Ruth Schill Griffis.  She worked as a nursing assistant at Wuesthoff Medical Center.  She was also employed with Enterprise C & D Landfill as an office manager.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pelzer.

Survivors include sons, Jason Patrick Canada of Pelzer, John Wesley Canada of Greenville; daughter, Angela Jean Long of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Carla Sellars of Bennettsville, Sheila Horr of Cocoa, FL; brother, Benny Griffis, Jr. of Pacolet.

The funeral service was held  Monday at the First Baptist Church in Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

CHARLIE ADAMS

WILLIAMSTON – Charles “Charlie” Thomas Adams, 91, widower of Sarah Frances Crowe Adams, died Friday, June 26, 2015.

Born in Conestee, he was a son of the late Paul C. Adams and Evie Thompson Adams Kelly. He retired from ARA Vending and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Williamston. A member of Williamston Masonic Lodge, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels for years and loved the Atlanta Braves.

He is survived by daughter, Debra Lynn Adams Flegas (Chris) of Laurens; grandchildren, Ian Flegas, Serra Graddick (Paul) and Eleni Cartwright (Jeff); great-grandchildren, Aiden Graddick, Meagan, Jordan and Liam Cartwright.

He was predeceased by sisters, Lillian Sims and Betty Lou Davenport; brothers, Henry, Billy and Aubrey Adams.

Visitation was held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Monday, June 29 at Calvary Baptist Church. The service followed at 2:00 pm at the church. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

PHILLIP CAMPBELL

Phillip Allen Campbell, 66, of Williamston, husband of the late Elizabeth Mayfield Campbell, died Saturday, June 27, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Truman Allen and Josephine Irby Campbell. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He retired from Sealed Air Corporation (Cryovac).

Survivors include daughters, April Allen Morgan of Powdersville and Amy Elizabeth McNutt of Williamston; sister, Madeline Cape of Anderson; brothers, Samuel Campbell of Piedmont and Thomas Campbell of Liberty; and six grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 30 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

PAT TUCKER

Patricia “Pat” Helen Tucker, 54, of Cornelia, GA, died Thursday, June 25, 2015.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Kirby and Essie Mae Overton Tucker.

Survivors include son, Tyler Tucker of Pelzer; daughter, Dawn Infinger of Spartanburg; brothers, Chester Tucker of Seneca, Monroe Tucker of Greer and Wallace Tucker of Pelzer; sisters, Margie Mulvilhill of Clarksville, GA and Nancy Redding of Marietta; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be planned at a later date.

LUCIE ROSE SENTELL

WILLIAMSTON – Lucie Rose Cothran Sentell, 85, wife of the late James William Sentell, died Friday, June 26, 2015.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Eugene and Alice Harbin Cothran. She retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Six and Twenty Baptist Church, Pendleton.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Debbie S. and Jimmy Funk of Williamston; grandchildren, Chad, Clint and Cassie Funk; great-grandchildren, Houston and Corbin Funk.

She was predeceased by brothers, Mark, Charles and Douglas Cothran; sister, Melba Sentell.

Visitation was from 7:00 to 9:00 pm Sunday, June 28 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The service was held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 29 at Six and Twenty Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

ROBERT WILLIAMS

Robert Williams, 82, of Piedmont, died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at his home.

Funeral was held Saturday, June 27 at Church of Christ I-85. Burial followed in the Golden Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

WILLIAM LEROY ARNOLD

William Leroy Arnold, 83, of Honea Path, died June 26, 2015.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Edith Woody Arnold; daughters, Mamie Airline of Belton, Martha “Mot” Pruitt of Anderson, and Rosa Arnold of Easley; son, Michael Arnold of Honea Path; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sue Collins and Betty Drummond, both of Greenville, and Nancy Whitner of Pelzer; and brothers, James Arnold of Walterboro, Mac Arnold and Isaac Arnold, both of Pelzer, and Sammy Arnold of Greenville.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jodie and Phoebe Jones Arnold.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 1 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Belton. Interment followed at Belton City Cemetery.

JAMES GORDON COX

James Gordon Cox, 86, of Piedmont, widower of Sara Lou Cox, died Monday, June 29, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Luther Pearson and Eugenia Carr Cox.

He was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church and was a veteran of the National Guard.

Surviving are a son Barry Cox; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, 459 Reedy Fork Road, Greenville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

LEE HALL

Lee Alvin Hall, 81, of Piedmont, husband of Betty Pittman Hall, died Monday, June 29, 2015.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late John and Mary Whitson Hall. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from National Starch.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Randy Hall of Greenville, Betty Clark of Greenville, William “Billy” Hall of Travelers Rest, Daniel Lark of Piedmont and Kathy Gray of Greenville; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BOBBY BLANDING

The Unity Mortuary of Williamston announces that family and friends will assemble at the Unity Mortuary of Williamston to celebrate the life of Mr. Bobby Ray Blanding on Thursday, July 2 at 2 p.m. The family will be gathering at 333 E. Carolina St., Williamston.

JAMES “FREDDY” RAVAN

James “Freddy” Ravan, 45, of Greenville, died Sunday, June 28, 2015.

He is survived by his parents Joe M. and Susan Ravan of Simpsonville; sons, Sammy Joe Ravan of Easley, and James Nathaniel Ravan of Greenville; daughters, Kayla Dawn Jones of Piedmont and Breanna Nicole Ravan of Greenville; brother, Michael Shane Ravan; and one grandson.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at Donaldson Church of God. Interment followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
