West Pelzer firefighters prepare to extinguish a car fire after a fiery accident on Highway 20 on the bridge over the Saluda River on Saturday night. Two cars collided and one caught fire and was completely destroyed. A bystander reportedly pulled a man from the burning car and a woman was able to get out on her own. Initially it was thought one other person had gone into the river but that proved false.

As a precaution, South Greenville firefighters responded with a boat and searched the river along with the Anderson Technical Rescue team. A woman and her dog were in the other car. All occupants of both vehicles were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital by Pelzer EMS and Medshore Ambulance Service. Highway 20 was closed for approximately two hours as rescuers worked the scene. (Photo by David Rogers)
