JIM MOODY

PELZER – Jimmie David Moody, 81, husband of 57 years to Shelvia Knox Moody, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late David Alonzo and Mary Josephine Crymes Moody. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Western Electric Company. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, J. Todd Moody of Albany, NY and Roger Moody (Carolyn) of Anderson; daughter, Lori Bradberry (Jeff) of Pelzer; brothers, Lafoy Moody of Clinton and Robert Moody of Williamston; grandsons, Tyler, Logan, Luke and Josh Moody, and Rhett and Jarred Herin; granddaughter, Kylee Moody.

He was predeceased by son, Jerry David Moody; sister, Faye Bagwell.

Visitation was from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Friday, August 7 at Calvary Baptist Church, Williamston. The service followed at 3:00 pm. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

TODD PHILLIPS

WILLIAMSTON – Todd Alan Phillips, 50, husband of Carol Rogers Phillips, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Joan Carolyn Poore Phillips of Belton and the late Wade Stroy Phillips. He was a volunteer at West Pelzer Fire Department, worked at South Greenville Fire Department and an Adjunct Instructor for the S.C. Fire Academy. He was a member of Williamston First Baptist Church and the Pelzer Masonic Lodge. He was currently employed at Dewey’s Pawn Shop as a Bench Jeweler.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by son, Noah Alexander Phillips of the home; daughter, Windsor Katherine Phillips of the home; sister, Stacey Latham of Anderson.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 6 at Williamston First Baptist Church. Visitation immediately followed the service.

JOEL ‘JOEY’ BURTON

Joel “Joey” Wayne Burton, 56, of Townville, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at his home.

Born in Anderson he was the son of the late Edward Emory Burton and the late Ellen Garrison Burton.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Garrison Burton; son, Joel Brandon Burton of Williamston; and brother, Roger Burton of Starr.

Funeral service was held Saturday, August 8 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Entombment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

JACKIE BURRISS

Jacquelyn Reid Burris, 81, of Williamston, died August 4, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late James “Bub” and Anna Mae Reid. She was the widow of Thomas Henry Burriss.

Surviving are children, Jean Burriss Ashley of Williamston, Pam Burriss of Atlanta, GA, and Todd Burriss of Williamston; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Reid Moore of Greenville; and brother, Zeke Reid of Anderson.

A memorial service was held Saturday, August 8 at Guthrie Grove Church.

BLAKE CAMPBELL

Austin Blake Campbell, 17, of Pelzer, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Robin Lanier Campbell and the late Willard B. Campbell, Jr. He was a rising senior at Palmetto High School where he was a member of the Varsity Wrestling and Soccer teams. He also attended Tri-County Tech. He was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

Surviving are his mother, Robin; two sisters, Emily Campbell of the home and Trudi Winstead of Tamassee; brother, Chris Campbell of Williamston; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Nancy Lanier of Mount Pleasant.

A memorial service was held Friday at Whitefield Baptist Church.

MILDRED SLATTON BRIDGES

Mildred Slatton Bridges, 84, of Greenville, died on Wednesday, August 5, 2015.

Born in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Eva Kimble Slatton.

She was retired from Tobacco Land and was a Christian.

Surviving are sons, Charles A. Bridges and wife, Sue of Greenville, Clifton Bridges of Hendersonville and son, David Bridges of Greenville; daughters, Gail Bridges of Greenville and Wanda Brewer of Powdersville; ten grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, August 8 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.

‘JIMMY’ BEDDINGFIELD

James “Jimmy” Lloyd Beddingfield, 67, of Williamston, husband of Yvonne Carter Beddingfield, died Friday, August 7, 2015.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late George and Eunice Jennings Beddingfield. He had formerly worked for Mount Vernon Mills.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Jamie Dudley of Charleston, Melissa Mills of Charleston, Mark Beddingfield of Easley, Keith Beddingfield of Pelzer, Jimmy Beddingfield of Belton; brothers, Wayne and Charles Beddingfield of Williamston; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, August 15, at 1:00 p.m. at the Williamston Church of God. The family is at the home.

AUDREY CAMPBELL

Audrey Ann Chapman Campbell, 77, of Pelzer, wife of William T. Campbell, Sr., died Friday, August 7, 2015.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Bill and Sybil Chapman. She was a retired cosmetologist from Josef and Steven Salon.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, William T. Campbell, Jr. of Belton, Rhonda Marie Campbell of Myrtle Beach, Robert H. Campbell, Sr. of Myrtle Beach; sisters, Kay Chapel of Westminster, Debbie Cooley of Pelzer; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held August 10 at Washington Baptist Church. Burial followed place at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

LYNDSEY M. “MORGAN” STEVENSON

Lyndsey M. “Morgan” Stevenson, 45, of Elm Grove, WV, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at UPMC, Pittsburgh, PA.

She was employed with Epic Marketing Solutions of Middleton, DE, and a member of Stone Presbyterian Church, Elm Grove.

Surviving are her parents, David and Kim Morgan of Greenville, and Becky Wilson of Williamston; husband, Jason Stevenson of Elm Grove; two children, Wade and Connor Stevenson of Elm Grove; and four brothers, Matt, David, Christopher, and Jonathan Morgan, all of Greenville.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

DOROTHY CASON

Dorothy Moore Cason, 79, of Belton, wife of the late Robert Wayne Cason, died Thursday, August 6, 2015.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Fred and Martha Leslie Moore. She retired from Bibb Company and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Krystal Hamby of Pelzer; son, Steve Cason of Belton; sisters, Shirley Ellis  of Taylors and Genevieve Cooper  of Easley; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

Funeral service was held Sunday, August 9 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Burial followed at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

DAVID C. CAMPBELL SR.

David Cureton Campbell, Sr., 90, of Pelzer, died at McCall Hospice House on August 9, 2015.

The son of the late Julius Herman and Sallie Mae Garrison Campbell, he was born in Greenville County. After serving in the Army in World War II, he co-owned Campbell Brothers’ Dairy and later worked at Kemet Corporation until his retirement.  He was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jerrell Bowers Campbell; children, David Campbell, Mary Campbell Gardner, Rachel Campbell Filippo, John Campbell, and Sarah Lancaster; ten grandchildren; brother, Dick Campbell.

Funeral service was heldWednesday, August 12, at Sandy Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JIM JORDAN

James Lee “Jim” Jordan, husband of Mona Myers Jordan, of Honea Path, died Saturday, August 8, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Walter Guy and Rosa Lee Bell Jordan. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Hollingsworth.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three brothers, Joseph Jordan of Anderson, Hal Jordan of Williamston, and Lindsey Jordan of New Orleans, LA; and sister, Frances Greer.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Belton Church of God.

C.B. DRAKE, JR.

Anderson – C.B. Drake, Jr., 91, widower of Wilma Chapman Drake, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Claude B., Sr. and Mamie Eugenia Terry Drake.  He was owner/operator of Drake’s Supply Company in West Pelzer for over 50 years.  He attended St. John’s Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Claire Drake Medlock (Pelham) of Belton; son, Kerry Drake (Cathy) of Acworth, GA; grandson, Justin Medlock (Holly) of Edgefield; granddaughters, Mary Drake of Acworth, GA and Abigail Medlock of Belton; niece, Jean Pickens of Anderson; special friend, Louise Freeman of Anderson.

He was predeceased by son, Charles Terry Drake; three brothers; one sister; two grandchildren, Michael Brannon Brown and Tayla Claire Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621 or to The Maples, 224 Wildwood Dr., Honea Path, SC 29654.

Visitation was held from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

Willie James Whittaker Jr., of Greenville, died Thursday, August 6, 2015 at McCall’s Hospice House.

Surviving are his son, Willie J. Whittaker, III of Piedmont; sisters, Frances Jones of Sumter and Thelma Anderson of Portsmouth, VA.

Richard J. Roper, 80, of Pelzer, husband of Linda Roper, died August 10, 2015.

Michael Paul Garner, 60, of Piedmont, died Sunday, August 9, 2015.

He is survived by his son, David Michael Garner; parents, Ronald and Carolyn Riddle; siblings, Steve Garner, Rhonda Owens, and Ronald “Chip” Riddle, Jr.; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Paul Garner.

Mary Ethel Coker Kellett, 85, widow of Roy Marin Kellett, died Sunday, August 9, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late William “Willie” and Mallie King Coker.

She retired from First Savings Bank and was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan Nasim of Greenville; brother, Marvin Coker of Pelzer; and three granddaughters.

THELMA COOPER MERRITT

Thelma Louise Cooper Merritt, 84, of Powdersville, wife of the late J.R. Merritt, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Groce Cooper and the late Verdie West Cooper. She was a homemaker and a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Wendell Merritt, David Merritt, Rickey Merritt and Jerry Merritt; daughters, Carolyn Merritt, Sharon King; sister, Lou Bailey; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at Siloam Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
