According to reports, just before 2 am Tuesday Sept. 8, a deputy patrolling the Highway 20/Anderson Highway area observed a white Yamaha motorcycle headed toward Williamston, driving recklessly. The deputy followed the vehicle, ran the tag, and was advised that the motorcycle was reported stolen from Simpsonville.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop but the motorcycle failed to pull over for the officer’s blue lights and siren and sped away at speeds around 100 miles per hour. The vehicle then turned onto Green Street in Williamston and stopped.

The pursuing deputy ordered the rider off of the motorcycle and identified him as Jason Robert Mortimore, 34, of Wilbon Circle in Simpsonville.

A cigarette box containing a crystal-like substance was located in Mortimore’s pocket. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Mortimore also possessed a screwdriver, which he had been using to start the motorcycle.

Simpsonville City Police Department was notified that the vehicle had been recovered. The Yamaha, which had a strong odor of spray paint, was taken into evidence and towed for processing.

Mortimore was transported to the Anderson County Detention Center, pending a bond hearing. He has been charged with failure to stop for blue lights, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of methamphetamine.
