SARA ROSS AKINS

ABBEVILLE – Sara Ross Akins, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, September 02, 2015, at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born on February 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Ross and the late Mamie Autry Ross.  She was a member of Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two great-nephews, who showed her special care, Danny Ross and John M. Ross; as well as other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, B.F., Fred, and Harold Ross; two sisters, Nora Davis and Lucille Campbell; a special nephew, John L. Ross, Jr., with whom she made her home.

The Funeral Service was held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, September 4, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Ronnie Powell officiating.  Interment  followed at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Pelzer, SC.

The family will receive friends, prior to the service on Friday, at the funeral home, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church, 135 Riley Street, Anderson, SC 29624.

CARRIE ALLENE ELLISON

Carrie Allene Ellison, 92, of Greenville, widow of Leslie Ellison, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015.

Born in Rock Hill, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Walker and Lucy McSwain Locke.

She retired from Oakmont Nursing Home and was a member of Buncombe Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Alma Ferguson of Travelers Rest and Robin Barber of Greenville; sons, Tom Ellison of Chapin, Millard Ellison of Pelzer, and Thomas Ellison of Hampton, VA; three grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Spivey of Kinsport, TN.

A graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 5 at Graceland Cemetery, West.

RUTH C. WILSON

Ruth Candler Wilson, of Piedmont, widow of Herbert Wilson, died September 1, 2015.

She is survived by children, Cynthia Owen and Michael Wilson of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sister, Martha Boling of Greenville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home.

REBECCA DIANE DAVIS CLEVENGER

Rebecca Diane Davis Clevenger, 64, of Piedmont, wife of Jackie Clevenger, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Doris King Davis.

She retired from Pathology Consultants.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Diana Clevenger of Powdersville; son, Jason Clevenger of Piedmont; sister, Joy Davis of Piedmont; brother, Howard Davis of Piedmont; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 5 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

NELLIE WILLIAMS

Nellie Ruth Chapman Kelly Williams, 70, of Belton, widow of Henry Boyd Kelly, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late William Calvin and Ruth Viola Scott Chapman.

She was formerly employed with The Blue Jean Place in Pelzer.

Survivors include son, Henry Dean Kelly of Pelzer; daughters, Beverly Diane Mixon and Kelli Kelly, both of Pelzer; sister, Bobbie  Hudson; brothers, James, David, Roy Chapman; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Sunday in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.  Burial followed at Daventon Baptist Church Cemetery.

DAVID PLUMLEY

David Lee Plumley, 61, of Pelzer, husband of Sharon Stewart Plumley, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Jennifer and Stewart; nine grandchildren, Erika, Aaron, Noah, Davi, Zack, Kayla, Elizabeth, Lawson, Daniel; seven brothers and sisters.

A graveside service was held Saturday, September 5, at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, Pelzer.

CARROLL ‘BUSTER’ FOWLER

Carroll Frances “Buster” Fowler, 81, of Piedmont, husband of Ruth Gregory Fowler, died Friday, September 4, 2015.

Born in Anderson County, he was the last surviving child of the late Doc and Winnie Phillips Fowler. He retired from the U.S. Navy a Korean War Veteran. He also retired from Fluor Daniel. He was a member of Piedmont First Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Danny Fowler of Williamston; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, September 7, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

WAYNE KAY

Wayne Haywood Kay, 68, of Williamston, husband of Jane Ledford Kay, died Friday, September 4, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Claude and Minnie Lee Woodson Kay. He was retired from Kemet Electronics.

In addition to his wife, survivors include son, Mark Nix; daughter, Crista Nix, both of Pelzer; brother, Joe Kay of Pelzer; sister, Sarah Clardy of Greenville; two grandsons.

Funeral service was held Monday in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

PENNY SHULAR

PELZER—Penny Juanita Ensley Shular, 80, widow of James C. Shular, died Sunday, September 6, 2015.

Born in Hazelwood, NC, she was a daughter of the late William Fred and Margie Campbell Ensley. She retired from Kendall Company and was a member of Bessie Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include, daughters, Barbara Ellison (Phillip) of Williamston, Patricia Crawford (Harry) of Pelzer, Wanda Jordan (Steve) of Pelzer, Rendy Kirwan (Jim) of Pelzer; grandchildren, Steven Jordan, Lori Ellison Chapman, Lisa Ellison Fisher, Billy and James Hawthorne, Jonathan Shular; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Ellison, Jordan Chapman, Kensley, Prestyn and Dyllon Chapman, Landon Fisher, Kaitlyn and Alston Jordan; and special nephew, Timmy (Martha) Ensley.

She was predeceased by son, Charles Edward “Eddie” Boyce; brother, Buck Ensley; and granddaughter, Amber Jordan.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, September 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held after the service.

The family is at the home of Rendy Kirwan, 115 Walkers Hill Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.

BOBBIE NEWMAN DURHAM

Bobbie Newman Durham, 84, of Anderson, wife of Donnie Durham, died Saturday, September 5, 2015.

Born in Greer, she was the daughter of the late Sherman England and Eugenia Swett Newman.

She retired from Carpenter’s Dry Cleaning in Mauldin and was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Michael R. Mason, and Anna Marie Brock, both of Anderson; two step-sons, Bryan and Eddie Durham, both of Williamston; brother, Clayton Newman of Simpsonville; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; two step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Sept. 6 at Parkwood Baptist Church. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

LAMAR MALPHRUS

Duane Lamar Malphrus, Sr., 85, of Fountain Inn, died Sept. 2, 2015.

Born in Ridgeland, he was son of the late Winfred and Hattie Malphrus.

He preached at Euhaw Baptist Church in Grahamville, served in the South Carolina National Guard.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Nancy Caroline Ledbetter Malphrus; three children, Duane L. Malphrus, Jr. of Greenville, Calley Foster of Fountain Inn, and Peggy Cinelli of Pelzer; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Sept. 6 in the auditorium of Bryson Middle School.

EUGENE ROBERT CRUMLEY

Eugene Robert Crumley, 79, of Piedmont, died Sept. 4, 2015 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Roy and Orlie Crumley.

He was retired from Greenville Technical College as a security guard. He was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Inis Crumley of the home; three sons and one daughter, Kenneth Crumley, Steve Crumley, Anita Trotter, and Russell Crumley; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Mountain Springs Baptist Church, Piedmont.
