MARION E. ‘SMITTY’ SMITH, SR., KATHLEEN ALVERSON, KATHLEEN ALVERSON, JAMES ‘JIMMY’ BLACKSTONE, JR., JONATHAN BLACK, III, DOROTHY ‘DOT’ WALKER, HELEN OTHELLA HAMBY, CALVIN HOLCOMBE

MARION E. ‘SMITTY’ SMITH, SR.

Marion Eugene “Smitty” Smith, Sr., 87, of Belton, widower of Margaret Louise Smith, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Samuel N. and Alice Wells Smith.  He was retired from Milliken and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Marion E. Smith, Jr. of Belton and Douglas W. Smith of Anderson; daughter, Teresa Ann Franks of Belton; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Friday, September 18, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

KATHLEEN ALVERSON

Kathleen Gertrude Hicks Alverson, 91, of Pelzer, wife of the late William Russell Alverson, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Mabel Andrews Hicks.

She retired from Fiber Industries and was a member of Trinity Baptist Tabernacle.

She is survived by daughter, Jan Anderson of Easley; sister, Annie Carrere of Greenville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Saturday, September 19 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JAMES ‘JIMMY’ BLACKSTONE, JR.

WILLIAMSTON—James Clyde “Jimmy” Blackstone, Jr., 67, husband of Dianne Aiken Blackstone, died Friday, September 18, 2015.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late James Clyde Sr. and Earline Clardy Blackstone. He had retired as owner of Blackstone Automotive.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Kelly Burley of Sharpsburg, GA, Leslie Blackstone of Anderson; sons, Josh Blackstone of West Pelzer, Charles and Todd Jeckel of Williamston; sisters, Mary Earle Blackstone, Kathryn Blackstone, and Beverly Traynham; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 2:00 – 3:00, Monday, September 21 at Calvary Baptist Church. A memorial service followed at 3:00.

JONATHAN BLACK, III

Jonathan Murriel Black, III “J.B.”, 29, died Thursday, September 17, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of John Black, Jr. and Karen Edens Black.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers, Jake Black of the home and Robbie Lee Black “Wilber” of Liberty; sister, Kat Black of the home; grandparents Roberta Stone of Williamston and Sue Black of Easley.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 22 in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Flat Rock Cemetery, Liberty.

DOROTHY ‘DOT’ WALKER

Dorothy “Dot” Woods Walker, of Greenwood, widow of the late Earl Walker, died Friday, September 18, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Calvin “Red” and Madge Thompson Woods. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two granddaughters; and four great-grandsons.

A graveside service was held Monday, September 21, at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery, Honea Path.

HELEN OTHELLA HAMBY

Helen Othella Hamby, 83, widow of Guy Gerald Hamby, of Belton, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Amiel and Lucia Elgin Getsinger.

She retired from Textiles and was a member of Belton Church of God.

Surviving are daughter, Ann Wilson of Piedmont; sisters, Mary Alice Brock of Honea Path, Betty Sue Fisher of Belton and Doris Finley of Anderson; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Belton Church of God. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.

The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday from 12:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.

CALVIN HOLCOMBE

Calvin Edward Holcombe, 87, of Pelzer, husband of Mary Ellen Smith Holcombe, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015.

Born in Liberty, he was a son of the late Edward Holcombe and Eula Bagwell Holcombe Bracken. He retired from Hydro Aluminum in Belton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Terry Keith Holcombe of Williamston, Tommy Dale Holcombe Sr. of the home and Randall Wade Holcombe of Pelzer; daughter, Jacqueline Sherrill Harvey of Williamston; brother Joe Holcombe of Williamston; sisters, Janice Horne and Dolly Kay; step-sister, Annette Ensley of Piedmont; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Friday, September 25 at White Plains Baptist Church, Pelzer.

The service will follow at 3:00 pm at the church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

The family will be at the homes of Shanna Harris, 102 Stevens Dr., Williamston and Sherrill Harvey, 113 Templewood Ct., Williamston.
