‘ARNIE’ JAMERSON

PELZER – Caroll Arnold “Arnie” Jamerson, 79, husband of Lonita Taylor Jamerson, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late James Lawrence and Ida Mae Dickson Jamerson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and formerly employed with Gerber and Anderson School District One. He was a member of Living Water Church, Pelzer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Cecil “Scott” Jamerson (Tammy) of Williamston; brothers, Doug Jamerson (Mary) of Greenville and Mack Jamerson (Vivian) of Lawrenceville, GA; grandson, Joshua Jamerson (Stacey Lollis).

He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation was from 1:30 to 2:45 pm Thursday, December 10 at Living Water Church.

The memorial service followed at 3:00 pm in the church.

The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Living Water Church, P.O. Box 158, Pelzer, SC 29669.

The family will be at the home of Scott and Tammy Jamerson.

GRADY CARTER

Grady Lee Carter, 70, of Anderson, died Sunday, December 6, 2015 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Rev. Thomas Ray Carter and the late Mary Rebecca Tucker Carter.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by two sons, Christopher “Chris” Carter and Mark Carter, both of Anderson; brothers, Jerry, Lonnie, and Leon Carter, all of Williamston; two sisters, Yvonne Beddingfield and Shelby Gilreath, both of Williamston; and two grandsons.

Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 13. Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery with Military Honors.

ALLAN CARTER

Allan Carter, 65, of Piedmont, died Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Laurens County Hospice House.

Born in Polk County, GA, he was a son of the late Isaac and Louise Ferguson Carter.

He was retired from Alice Manufacturing of Easley and was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 14 at Rosemont Cemetery with Military Honors.

WILLIS CLARDY

Willis Daniel Clardy, 75, of Williamston, husband of Betty Hammond Clardy, died Friday, December 11, 2015.

Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late William Grady Clardy and Pauline Thomas Creel.  He retired from BASF and was a member of Faith Fellowship Ministries. He was co-founder and volunteer member of the Williamston Rescue Squad for 27 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Lisa Clardy Davis (Russell) of Townville; sons, Steve Daniel Clardy of Williamston and Phillip Eugene Clardy of the home; sisters, Linda Gross (Joe), Carol Wierich (Earl), Judy Williams and Joann Scott; brothers, Ricky, Frank, Jerry and Ray Clardy; grandchildren, Heaven, Matthew, and Donovan Clardy, Tyler and Brandon Wright, Sarah Davis; great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Lucas Clardy, Scarlett and Khloe Wright.

He was predeceased by stepmother, Frieda Naasz; siblings, Marilyn Barnes, Doris Crooks, Sue Hayden, Carlene Buffington, Evelyn Bishop, Randy and David Clardy, Donnie Prickett.

Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, December 13, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, December 14 in the funeral home chapel.

Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family was at the residence.

MIKE LINDSEY

Michael “Mike” David Lindsey, 63, of Piedmont, husband of Karen Sauls Lindsey, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, he was  the son of the late Ralph Edwin and Ella Mae Roach Lindsey.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Michelle Freeman; son, Jeffrey Lindsey; sister, Linda Thompson; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 13 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

HELEN CHILDRESS GATCH

Helen Childress Gatch, 93, of Columbia, died Thursday, December 10, 2015.

Born in Six Mile, she was a daughter of the late Frank Bruce Childress and Flora Ellen Bennette Childress.

She was a civil service employee at Parris Island and was a school teacher.

She was a member of Eau Claire Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Helen “Mickie” Gatch Cato of Mauldin; son, Wendel Holmes Gatch of Lafayette, LA; sisters, Ethel Earline C. Sublette of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Rachel Evangeline C. Hollifield of Marion; brother, Frank Bruce Childress of Piedmont; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband,  John Matthew Gatch.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 12 at Eau Claire Baptist Church. Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

JOHN COOLEY, SR.

WILLIAMSTON – John Matthew Cooley, Sr., husband of Sara Frances Gregory Cooley, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015.

He was twice married, first to the late Sara Frances Lollis Cooley.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Alexander and Dora Martha Holliday Cooley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, retired from Cushman and Kendall Company, and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Pelzer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Ken Cooley of Belton and Tony Cooley of Williamston; daughters, Vickie Burton of Pelzer, Gwen Burgess and Pamela Owens, both of Williamston; step-son, John Willard of Starr; brother, Henry Cooley of Honea Path; sisters, Peggy Rainey of Pelzer, Sue Cooley of Anderson and Kate Hanks of Honea Path; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by son, John M. Cooley, Jr.; step-son, David Vincent.

Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, December 16 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 17 at Big Creek Baptist Church.

Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JAMES MERCK

James Bagwell Merck (Jim), 51, died December 12, 2015 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, he was son of James and the late Peggy Merck.

He was employed with Owens Corning in Starr.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Lynn Conn Merck; and three children, Abbi, Connor, and Carson, all of the home; father, James K. Merck of Piedmont; and sister, Suzanne Tripp of Piedmont.

He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 14 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

JAMES ‘JIM’ ROACH

James Roach, 80, of Easley, husband of Gloria Garron Roach, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Westminster, he was the son of the late James Ervin and Lena Collins Roach.

He was retired from General Electric and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, James Phillip of Westminster, Gary Edmund of Piedmont, Richey of Woodruff, and James Kevin of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 12 in the chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home. Burial followed in First Baptist Memorial Park Westminster.

GLORIA JOHNSON

FAIR PLAY – Gloria Ethelyn Ward Johnson, 80, wife of Coy Castle Johnson, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Douglas Clyde Ward and Bertha Azaline McNeely Vaughn. She was a member of Carpenter’s House, formerly McNeely Pentecostal Holiness Church. She formerly wrote for The Journal in Williamston.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Adrian Coy Johnson of WA, Douglas Carlton Johnson of Perkinston, MS, Denver Lee Johnson of Green Bay, WI, Kevin Raye Johnson of Easley and Dale Alan Johnson of Piedmont; daughter, Diane Johnson Roper of Piedmont; sisters, Doris Waldrop, Etta White and Tommie Riddle; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by step-father, Thomas Gentry Vaughn; son, Glen Keith Johnson; brother, Douglas Ward.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 pm Thursday, December 17 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at McNeely Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of son, Kevin Johnson, 100 Greencrest Way, Easley, SC 29642.

DUDLEY HATHCOX

Dudley Griffith Hathcox, 75, of Pelzer, husband of Anna Bishop Hathcox, died December 14, 2015.

Surviving in addition to his wife are seven children, 17 grandchidlren, and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 19 at Christian Assembly of God, Greenville. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m with memorial service at 2 p.m.

BETTY FRANCES STEWART ELLER

Betty Frances Stewart Eller, 88, of Greenville, wife of the late Franklin H. Eller died Sunday, December 13, 2015.

Born in Piedmont she was a daughter of the late Willie and Gladys Ayers Stewart.

She is survived by three children, Michael Eller, Sheila Bryant, and Brian Eller; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and brother, David Stewart.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, December 16 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
