SCDOT Statewide Summary at of 6 p.m. Friday

– Conditions throughout the state include rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Temperatures currently range from a high of 45 along the coast, to a low of 26 degrees along the northern border of the state.

Freezing temperatures are being reported north and west of a line from Greenwood to Darlington counties. Temperatures are expected to fall as the night progresses bringing icy conditions to roads and bridges. Travelers should exercise caution, especially on bridges as they will freeze before the roadway.

SCDOT forces have begun working rotating 12-hour shifts utilizing snow plows and applying salt and other anti-icing materials. Assistance crews from District 5 (4 crews) and District 6 (4 crews), have been dispatched to York County. Assistance crews from District 7 (8 crews) have dispatched Cherokee County. Also, approximately 175 tons of salt is being delivered to Spartanburg County from the Columbia Salt Dome.

Engineering District 1 – Current conditions are wet roads with temperatures ranging from 28 to 34 degrees. Bridges in northern Kershaw and some locations in Sumter are being treated. Other counties throughout the district are monitoring road and bridge conditions.

Engineering District 2 – Current conditions are rain with temperatures ranging from 27 to 32 degrees. Anderson County is reporting some icy patches. All other counties are reporting wet road conditions. All counties report applying anti-icing and deicing materials to primary routes, bridges, and other locations as needed.

Engineering District 3 – Current conditions are being reported as freezing rain and sleet with temperatures between 26 and 31 degrees. The district reports significant snow coverage in the mountainous areas of Oconee County. Pickens and Spartanburg county roads are reported as covered with snow and ice. Roads and bridges are being reported as partially covered with snow and ice in Greenville and Oconee Counties. District three will continue to plow and treat roads as needed, with the interstates being the first priority. Pickens and Oconee counties report they are removing trees from the roads. Crews are working rotating 12 hour shifts.  They have mobilized SHEP and the Traffic Management Center. Construction personnel are being used to operate pickup trucks equipped with salt spreaders.

Engineering District 4 – Current conditions are cloudy in Chesterfield and Union, rain in Fairfield and Lancaster, and sleet/freezing rain in remainder of the district. Temperatures range from 26 to 31 degrees. Cherokee, Chester, Lancaster, and York reports roads covered or partially covered with snow and ice. The District is working rotating 12 hour shifts, and will continue this for the duration of the storm. They continue to apply deicing and anti-icing materials on interstates and primaries. Assistance crews from Districts 5, 6 and 7 have been dispatched to assist.

Engineering District 5 – Current weather conditions include rain being reported in Marlboro and Florence Counties with the remainder of the district reporting cloudy conditions. Temperatures range from 29 to 34 degrees. Crews are inspecting roads and pretreating where necessary. They continue to monitor conditions and apply deicing
